My 'Essential Mix' (part 2), [uplifting/morning/half-way-psychedelic-trance], 2 hours

I did another one of these for the Matt Hardwick 'I Am DJ' competition a year or so ago, and there is another coming up soon. The basic premise is to make a 2 hour mix to showcase what you would do if you were given an essential mix. I have jumped the gun a bit because I really wanted to make a 2 hour mix anyway, and this is what I have come up with.
It's quite an uplifting 'morning trance' session, and rather than being completely linear I have tried to allow the energy levels to meander by spacing out the anthemic tracks quite evenly, and using more driving, psychedelic tracks to build up to each climax - so I suppose it sounds more like a live set than a studio mix. Also I tried to maintain a consistent 'mood' throughout the whole thing, because all of my favourite mixes seem to have a particular theme rather than going through all of the motions.
Anyway, I would really appreciate hearing any thoughts you have at all on this - and whether or not you think it is good enough for a competition!

If you don't want to check it all the time I can just let you know when it starts. The rules are that you can enter a 2 hour mix, of which any genre is welcome. The best mix is voted for by the competition entrants, and the people who use the forum regularly. Last year, the winner got a set at Digital Society in Leeds |

Wow, that's a pretty good prize. I actually live in Leeds and I'm going to the next Digital Society because Orkidea is playing. I won't be submitting a clubby mix anyway, so I doubt I'll win.
If you could let me know when the competition starts, that would be great. |

So you can see that a range of genres, including ambient have a fair chance. That second one is a real masterpiece!
However, your chance of winning without being part of the 'in crowd' on the forum are slim to zero, because people will probably just not listen to it / vote for their mates. You know how forums work ;) |
