yes all the parts will be public but since I made the melodies, those that entered the competition will be the only ones to use it without worrying about copyright. Not that I will or can afford to sue anyone as I don't really care but the people that put in the work should be able to add the track they made to their portfolio and I am quite an experienced composer and the melodies and chord progressions you will be getting will be unique and interesting.
It isn't something you download. Just some very interesting melodic / harmonic ideas that I will provide. They will range in difficulty from the hardest and In my opinion the coolest which uses a Neapolitan chord and modulates to a different key to something more simple and catchy and uplifting. Will probably have the cool one I mentioned and 2 more traditional catchy melodies one in major and one in minor.I probably wont' provide midi's because the context of the material will be very general in that I don't want to influence the way anyone uses the material from the rhythm to the setting. I will however provide the chord analysis and will answer any questions regarding the chord progressions and melodies if people need help. Some of them will be quite long with different iterations which you don't have to use but can if you plan to use a 32 bar melody.
The examples will be explained so that you will understand what makes each individual example different and how you can manipulate chop up or whatever you want to make it your own. |

| I know there's only 8 positions available and I know MFB hates the kind of music I make but holy I hope I get to be a part of this, this sounds incredibly fun and as a starving student between jobs I'd love a chance at the $250. That's my share of rent for a month. |

| Sounds like an interesting challenge. I wouldn't mind checking out the material we'd have to use when it's ready.. |

I live in really ty campus housing with two other people, rent might be cheap but we're definitely getting what we pay for. The other day the mirror in the bathroom fell out of the wall and hit my friend over the head while he was brushing his teeth. And not to further reference Fight Club but the way the water looks in their house, is how our water looks if it's not run for a few days. Blood red.
You're not missing out. |

8 positions overall. If the first cut is close, I might allow a few extra but again, the judges are busy people and I wanted to have them judge 2 tracks per week. Seniority and overall activeness will play a part in choosing the contestants as I do think it is more fair that this contest be reserved for contributing members but obviously the skill has to be there as well. So lets say it is a tie between some new guy and someone that is on here regularly, I will be bias towards the person that posts regularly and that is just a matter of fairness.
And I've noticed a few people I seem to not get along with haven't expressed interest. I do want them to know that as far as this competition, I'm not holding any grudges and my vote doesn't count any more than the other judges. |

| mmm i am a bit scared if you are not going to send us midis, i feel more comfortable when i know i have full control of rythm and melodies, i'm usually keen on using arpeggiated versions of the melodies i receive to remix but well having plain wavs adds a part of challenge that is good on every contest. |

| I can post the midis if people are stuck. The things posted will just be a template of sorts. I don't expect anyone to use the same rhythmic or melodic accentuation as the examples will most likely be piano renditions. Will probably do a chordal and arpegiatted setting for each. |

| no midis sounds actually cool, then it requires some sort of ear. or maybe that should be a different contest: "recreate the midi". |
