Just know that I've been here since I was 5 (31 years) and have never had any kind of instruction on Spanish spelling or grammar..

I've been here since I was 4, and Spanish is my second language, but my Cuban father packed communism into the suitcase next to his underwear when we moved... My sister and I got the slap upside the head as children if we ever spoke English in the house.

I'd like to do the same to my daughter but it helps when both parents speak the language.

I was born here in Toronto, but my mom & dad both made sure I learned how to speak/write/read it.
