Anyone own a Studiologic keyboard? I'm in the market for a new midi keyboard and since I started taking piano lessons, weighted keyboards have been interesting me. Most are expensive, but a store by my house has all Studiologic/Fatar keyboards 50% off. I'm interested in the entry level model SL-990. They have it on sale for $249.
Any input? Ideas, recommendations?

I used to have a studiologic keyboard. It's a very good brand in general, although I don't know this specific model. |

I think learning on a non graded piano better as each finger will be equal in strength but most concert pianists will practice on a graded action keyboard which yours is as it tends to mimic a real grand piano. Again I don't think it will make much of a difference unless you are spending hours doing Hanon's finger exercises which I have a feeling your not. |

I've never owned a Studiologic/Fatar controller, but I've played many of them in stores and have owned several synths with Fatar keybeds (e.g., Virus). I'd definitely recommend an SL-990, especially at that price. Make sure that it's not a B-stock. |

I used ot work for the UK distrbutor and have done tech support for them.
The first gen we got of the 990 were crap and kept breaking but it was sorted out and I seriously doubt if any of those are left as this was about 7 years ago.
The keys do actually feel pretty good for a hammer action synth keyboard and even though the weighting is uniform, don't worry about it. it's not as if you need the graduation when starting out.
That's a great deal, they cost twice as much normally so I would jump on that.
My only slight gripe about them is that they (the body) feels a little plasticy but apart from that it's really good.
IMO, go for it |

Awesome feedback, specially from the Vets. Thanks! I think I'm gonna buy it. My only grip is that it's HUGE! I'd have to make some room for it.
They also have the Studiologic VMK188 for like $150-$200 more but I honestly don't think I would use the extra features.
@ RANN How would I know if it's an older version or a newer one?

I seriously dount if it's the old ones. You can tell by the box - the original (problematic ones) had a box design straight out of the early 90's and I have not seen one since 2003. I really wouldn't sweat it unless the box looks truly ancient.
I would just go for the 990 - the faders on the 188 are really too small to be of any real use. |
