Quality Cables for Studio Monitors

Hey Folks,

I just picked up some behringer truth 2031a monitors and I was wondering if there's a difference between the quality of cables. My mixer has TRS outputs (xone 32) and the monitors have TRS and XLR inputs. Should i do XLR to TRS, or should I just do TRS to TRS.

Also, are there cheap cables I should avoid? Having played bass and guitar for years, I know to avoid unsleeved cables due to the TRS connections working loose over time.

Thanks
jdat
xlr-xlr trs-trs are both essentially the same thing if they are properly wired up(some xlr cables for example aren't real balanced cables because two tips are running on the same lead).

just be sure the cables are balanced as both the mixer and the monitors supports that, it will improve dynamics and lower the noise. i have the same mixer and run balanced TRS to XLR to my monitors. all hum is gone, i used to have problems with hum from computer before. Klotz cables are recommended.

Exactly, and just stay away from monster cables. Mogami, Canare, Van Damme, and Klotz are all good.

Thanks for the help.

Why avoid monster cables? Aside from being overpriced.

Because they are cheap crap cables in expensive packaging masquerading as good cables.

If you're in Oakville, there's a Long & McQuade in both Burlington and Mississauga - locally, they're probably going to be the most reasonably priced when it comes to good quality cables.

Nah, I don't think so. They may be cheap, but it's all unbranded cable with unbranded connectors and no where do they state hand made.

Fine if you need cheap stuff fro your hifi, but just spend the extra $10 and get some decent cables.
