I saw Jay Z earlier in the winter. I'm not into him much but he threw it down. Great production for the show.
LAdazeNYnights
eh i saw him at staples and i thought the production was good but the rest of the show was sub par. i caught him again at coachella a month later and the set was exactly the same - and we're talking down to the stage banter, making the same exact comments about the same exact things, introducing his backing group in the same order, using the exact same dialogue. that was really really disappointing to me.

i love rap, dont get me wrong. its what i started with. its what i did and still do. im actually rapping at some leukemia benefit battle of the bands this saturday before des spins at fur.

BUT... in my experience, rap shows SUCK unless they are at small venues. Jedi Mind Tricks and RA the Rugged at SOB's, awesome. Dead Prez and Immortal Technique at the Schine Underground at Syracuse University, DOPE, until it turned into a black panther rally. Nas at Schine, DOPE. Ludacris at Cornell, awesome...

dilated ppls and kanye and john legend, slope day 2004ish, meh. Common, Mos Def and the LOX at SU Block party spring 2000, ing DOPE.

ummm, kanye and lupe at the carrier dome? fail. The Roots in geneva, NY, amazing

u get the point, the more intimate the venue the better for rap I say.
LAdazeNYnights
ya i can feel that ... my brother saw jedi mind tricks somewhere in ny tho and he didn't really like the show - he said there was one guy who didn't say anything but his own name at all over the course of the whole set...and he managed to say his name during like every song.

i've seen clipse maybe 5 times now, mostly smaller venues, and every time they kill it and the show is just amazing. last year i saw the cool kids in nyc too, this dude mickey factz opened. that show was ing dopppeee too
