I'm sure DJ charts are all about politics and horse trading though. 'I'll put one of yours up if you do the same for me' or outright payola like the radio business. |
You can buy your way onto many DJ's charts. The fee in 2002 was $5000 to have your track put on A-list DJ's chart. I'm not sure who determines which DJ's participate, whether they opt in themselves or their management handles it. |

I see nothing wrong with it, these are THEY'RE charts and not industry "top sales" charts. A artist should naturally love his music the best becasue they made it how they wanted to, if they didn't LOVE their music they aren't they doing something wrong?
Also, in todays competeive market promotion is key. So if they view the chart as another avunue to showcase they're work then whats wrong with that? |

actually the majority of charts i enjoy following take a very different direction from the mainstream commercial nonsense that is shoved down our throats... |

| Including a few of one's own productions in a top-ten chart is perfectly fine with me :) |

I figured as much. EVERYBODY'S angling in this business - whether it's for cash, gigs, respect, glory, , or what have you. Cheers. |

Like Cam said; it's their chart.
Let em put what they want and let it be perceived however it will be perceived. |

Any charts are promoting if you ask me.
I chart on RA to promote the sound I am feeling at that time.
If someone produces a track, they'd likely want to play it out too, right?
I don't see it as a bad thing at all. |

| A friend of mine who was just starting to make a name for himself at that time who is now really successful. He was beginning to learn the options for promotion. |

Agreed. But, charting more than one or two makes you lose any credibility.
|
That's like saying PLAYING your own tracks makes you lose credibility. That is what the chart is supposed to represent after all... A list of tracks being PLAYED most often. |
