I stumbled upon this web site tonight and spent a few good hours reading and am finding out what an awesome site this is.Very resourceful!!
So, I thought I would give an attempt at trying to gain some inside knowledge from all of you here on a project I have been working on.
I do Dj and love trance but have turned to my keyboards and samplers to give my attempt at trying to compose and arrange. This is all brand new to me and really want to learn.
There is sort of a problem I am having however..
I have been told my "arrangements" are cool, but my "production" is less to be desired.
Admittedly,I am very much a noob when it comes to production work and was wondering if some of you wouldnt mind giving some feedback on how I should approach this mix. As well, for future reference any feedback you could offer on approaching a final mix.
To be honest, I also am not really sure what you could call this kind of music. Genre wise, Im thinking it sorta trancey, loungesque. I dunno know what to call it, I just know Im having alot of fun creating my new found hobby.
So, in short..I'd really appreciate your critical feedback and any further analysis you'd be so kind to share. Thanks in advance, and will look forward to being a part of this great forum.
Nortek, Thank you soo much for your insight, I changed the bass to mono however, Im having a little trouble finding where the stereo invert is.
I hear what your saying, I'm just wondering what it may be and have to run down the list of effects im using in Ableton and hopefully it isnt a channel that is causing it.
So, just as a point of view, what would you consider this type of music if you had to put it into a genre?
Thanks again for your help man, very much appreciated!!

Very unique track... I definitely have a feel for it.. Its very ambient. Perhaps adding a nice punchy kick to it may bring it out even more. Though that all depends on the direction you are trying to go with it. Definitely a great start and would love to hear more :)
As for classifications towards genres; screw them. Classifications limit the artist. Just call it your own style :)

Kind of an interesting tune. Some of the sounds and riffs remind me a bit of Orbital.
You have major mixing issues here, though. It sounds as if you are mixing it like '60s rock, with different instruments panned hard left or hard right. I say keep the composition and sounds but go back to the drawing board for the mixing.
