Mac Users: A Question about Installing Snow Leopard From Scratch

Hi,
I have a macbook, the HDD died, the original operating system disks are no longer in my possession.
I have a spare and blank 320gb HDD ready to install in the Macbook, which I already know how to do.
If I purchase a Show Leopard installation DvD, does the software look for a previous version of a Mac OS X? Can I install it on a blank HDD with no issues?

ive installed snow leo on a legit mac & hack book using that cd |
