Question about the Mic Line in on my Firewire card

Hello all!

This is something that has confused me for a while, I recently got this M-Audio Firewire Solo card when my CME Matrix FW had given up, and tonight i tried recording some vocals with my AKG Perception 200 and in my DAW it only displays the left channel when I sing.

The manual of the Firewire Solo states that "Input from this connector appears in your DAW software as a mono signal on the left side of the stereo input bar", so it is apperantly working as intended, so i'll have to pan the channel when i insert the vocals into the track to be centered or am i doing something totally wrong here?

I'm just asking because with my CME Matrix, it was in both channels immediately.

The input setting I am using in my DAW is "FW Solo Analog In 1 - FW Solo Analog In 2", under the Stereo Tab.

Any help most appreciated!

you either need to create a mono ch in your DAW
or convert your mono take to stereo first.

what's your DAW? most daw's by default list external stereo inputs instead of mono. So be sure to choose channel "1" not "1/2"

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Anthony, I did as you said and it most definitly worked, but those channels are under the "Mono" tab, which made me confused, but I guess it's working as intended, at least I hope so.

It just made me confused since I never had this occurance with the CME Matrix, but now I noticed that it only has one input (CME), so no wonder *lol*

I guess it goes out in stereo eventhough the input 1 selection is under the mono tab in FL studio, yes I am using FL studio *dodges tumbleweeds*

Yeah this havent occured to me like this before, but it works well for my needs, the poor thing has barely been used for two years, but we'll change that now!

why on earth would you do that ? about the stereo micing of the voice. Are you like recording in a cathedral ?

No, no!! This is something i have misunderstood, that's all, mono does the job perfectly!

The exercise is pointless. Unless you really want to capture a stereo feel for the room. It isn't going to do much for the actual voice.
