The people that first bought his tracks and somewhat respected him are the ones that now dislike him. When the gimmick came along a new group of people became interested in him and have sparked this craze. The first group of people got him noticed but the second group of people have created the monster. He's always been a bit of an ass and rubbed people the wrong way but now his immaturity is showing.
I don't disagree that he is a good performer and puts on a good show but personally a good show means if you produce music...unfortunately his new fanbase cares more about the gimmick and show then they do the music. |
Why do you care so much? |

I don't really care at all...just debating a topic...nothing more. |

he has a huge following because he wears a mouse head...there is no other reason. Other producers have produced tracks like his well before he came along and since he's been around and many of them have never gone on to this type of fame and showmanship. He had an interesting name and a gimmick that the young kids bought into. He has no artistic integrity and he is simply producing this type of music because he can make money doing it. |
he was very popular even before he had a mousehead so that's definitely not true.
the reason i still respect him is despite his popularity now he's still that same person he was back when i met him some years ago + he achieved it all on his own with his own productions, nowadays to reach a level that he's at many douchebags like guetta either sample other artists or they have 10 producers working full time for them making "hits" + the creativity of his music, he is definitely not afraid of trying something new once in a while and take some risks, that's why his music does so well. I'm not a big fan of that style or genre in particular but i can appreciate a talent when i see it. |

I don't disagree that he is talented but he has moved away from producing quality and now just produces quantity. He doesn't take risks with the stuff he actually releases...he goofs around and puts on youtube before any sort of official release.
You are right...he was popular before the mousehead but like I already said a lot of the people that liked him before the mousehead are the ones that dislike him now. Sure there is a core group, especially in toronto, that liked him before and still like him but some of those are just spewing the support local talent crap. The mousehead brought in a new group of people to him...he has now catered to that group.
From the couple of times I've met him....he came off like an ass...and this was before his fame took off. This has just gotten worse since his ego blew up. |

I disagree about the quantity, in fact he's very versatile and can do many different genres, i'm not sure if you've heard his free compilation that he let people download many years ago you would change your mind in an instant, it's everything from rock to alternative to chillout. (Deadmau5 - Get Scraped (2006))
Also he's always an ass and has always been, that's the thing, nothing has changed from when i met him then and see him now. If you were asked by every single teenager and a young adult outside that "Hey, are you deadmau5" you would be an ass too as well, especially with your temperament :D just get's annoying as and i get him. |

I believe that's why his argument is "he has moved away from producing quality and now just produces quantity." |

i'm sure that has a lot of to do with his touring schedule in the last year or so? he still got it in him, he just needs to stop touring so much and spend more time in the studio. If you read his blog he says that he mostly uses a midi keyboard and a laptop, all his gear is back home untouched because he has no time to go back and forth while on the road. |

so he is touring more yet spewing out more tracks then ever before....that just proves my point...he doesn't care about quality because he doesn't have to.
I agree he is talented but he gave that up to persue the green |
