Japanese artist Makotrax has proven to be one of the most versatile talents in EDM, with
releases ranging from techno to trance in recent months on various top-tier imprints
(Flashover, microCastle). Last seen on Mango Alley on remix duty of Schodt's beloved
"Bloc 9," Makotrax returns with the masterful "Hagoromo," a powerfully emotional
progressive ride, as free-flowing and beautiful as the waterfall for which it is named.
There is a brilliant patience to the development of this one, as the main chords subtly
crescendo in the the track and ultimately come to a climax in the main break. On remix
detail, MA has enlisted international heavyweight Paul Thomas [Toolroom, Baroque], a
globe-trotting DJ who has performed on six continents in recent years. Paul Thomas once
again brings his dancefloor sensibility to the production arena: his mix offers a
techier build, though, it becomes clear quite early that an anthemic break is lurking.
Sure enough, the original melody pours out in the main break, offering a spine-tingling,
hands-in-the-air few moments and overall release highlight.
