Hi
Everyone says that they mix kick peaking @ -8db. Which is fine i guess. But how about other elements? Sub bass? -20db? Roll bass -10db? Open hihat? -15db? etc..?
I'm asking cause i only have headphones, and sometimes it's hard to hear true levels or something. Thanks for your help ;) |

| theres no right answer on this one. keep it balanced and un-clipped. |

sub bass at -20 db would be almost unhearable lol. lower frequencies should be louder usually.
but yeah, stupid thread.. |

what? wouldnt that be dependant on the amp gain and speakers used? |

No, see the links above - it's all relative. |

| yes but -20dB in the mixer would be WELL audible if your monitors are at max and have a max SPL of 110dB, that would make it as audible as 90dB SPL (ofcourse as long as the monitor manage to reproduce that frequency). I think people discuss dB way too much, Its not really that difficult. |

| well you're right.. lets just say it wouldn't work in a club. (subbass mixed at -20db.) :p |

| depends on your definition on subbass. u could very well hear 40-50Hz in a club at -20dB when the overall SPL is 115dB, it would be at 95dB. but lower freqs than that is probably highpassed and therefore additional -18 or -36dB. Then its probably inaudible. I forgot what the question was about here again? |

Sub-bass is a term used to describe audible sounds below 90 Hz

It's important you have clear, flat headphones you know the sound of. And keep the volume low. |
