Well Az you are right about their a Terrorist organisation more then a gang though the IRA do take part in gang style operations they all ways have done, as they can't always rely on people to make donations of millions to the cause, to my knowledge they deal arms with people, I wouldn't be suprised if some of them dealed with drugs, because any drug dealers in IRA turf who are caught or suspected of dealing get a beating issued on them and members of their family in which their usually approached and have their kneecaps smashed up with baseball bats, one of the UK's strongest men Glen Ross I think his name is had a lot of trouble with some IRA members as he's a doorman and a fight broke between the doorstaff and some of the IRA brigade in that area, he had a beating issued, in which afterwork when he walked home, a van appeared 8 men with balaclava's baseball bats, pick axe handles, iron bars attacked him in a set of alotments, I saw pictures of his head and his brain nearly got crushed as he was basicially mobbed, but the doctors said as he was such a giant, his skull was a lot thicker then a normal persons, so he survived but his head was split in three.
Rozzer you probably mean the Provo IRA, as the Real IRA are very secret and clandestine about their operations the only thing people know is this theres only around 200 members and their based in County Louth in Ireland. The Provo's are the main IRA who are in the peace deal, but theres been certain scenes like when Rangers beat Celtic in the cup final, two loyalist men got shot in the head, so there is sort of a gang lifestyle, also I read a story that the US Government were worried since theres a ceasefire and weapons being discommisoned that former members of the IRA would move to the US and work as hitmen there, but it was just an article and I don't think its really truthfull probably just some very paranoid politcians, theres a lot of gangs in the USA of Irish Americans that have links with the IRA most well know were the Westies of New York and Winter Hill Gang of Boston, but these have died down since the early 90's the well know members are in hiding or in jail, but theres definatly still someone who's Irish running the rackets, they've probably been carefull not left an evidence or witnesses, the cops know who's who in gangs but they don't always have the evidence to make the arrest, who knows in a few years you usually find out.
back to gangs if you go back into the History there was gangs of bandits and so on who commited crime but never offically took part in a gang lifestyle. In the 1880's the first offical gangs were established in New York, and they were gangs of mostly Irish immagrants and a couple of Italian immagrants. |

They have tattoos of usually violent takes on traditional Japanese symbolic motiffs all over their body, which are applied progressively in patches, using a traditional needle. This makes it easy to spot one if you go to a Japanese public bath house.
The traditional way to apologise to one's superiors in the yakuza for a wrongdoing is to cut off one's own finger, usually starting with the pinky and moving inwards with each transgression.
If you're interested there are a few Yakuza films around. A recent one is called "Brother".
PS - IMHO Russian organized crime is by far the toughest. |

sorry but not true anyone with tattoos is not allowed into bath houses because it will scare the usual japanese away and anys these days non yakuza have tattoos as well!!!

and about 5T after the whole thing about the shooting the politician they all moved to melbourne and reformed there hehehe!!! in sydney id say the worst gangs are the:
1. the cousins (as in: ill get my cousins onto you bro)
2. the drunk as a skunk aussie buggers when they have decided to venture to a north shore meat market as a joke.
3. surfies - you better not cut in on their waves hehehe they will bash you with their boards |
