So im not huge into electronic music and by into it i mean that i dont know to many people who are good cause i do listen to it often. Anyways i love John Digweed and Sasha and i have many of their live sets and cd's but i also like(d) Paul Oakenfold but nothing of his lately has been sounding great. Mostly i have his live essential sets. Bringing me to my point, who else is good to listen to? I mean given that i like Sasha and Diggers and old Oakie? Does PvD have any good live sets? I use to have Rosenmontags but i lost it. I dont know let me know if anyone has any ideas!

I'd recommend watching Ken Burns' Jazz documentary. It's an absolutely excellent place to start listening to Jazz.

Knowing of a musician and knowing a musician are two very different things. If you know of Miles, then that's great start there. If you know him, then I guess you're already familiar with his music. Miles is a really hard guy to know though, because he played for so long, and with so many different musicians. I'd really recommend listening to "Kind of Blue." If you have already, maybe listen to it again. It spans a lot of Jazz in a single album. And after listening to it, you'll be recognize the names of seven good Jazz musicians and six superb ones. (I wouldn't say Jim Cobb is that influential).

A big thing to understand also is that the leader of a band, the guy who's name the album is under, is just one musician of the band. Birth of the Cool, Blue Haze, Relaxin', E.S.P, and Bitches Brew are completely different albums and sounds and periods in Jazz even though Miles led every band.

There are far too many musicians for me to say who deserves to be put up and who doesn't. To truly get into it, you just have to start.
