Comrade Stalin
I would have seriously had to contemplate not putting a bullet in the guy's head after hitting him in the spine. "Tell me why I shouldn't blow your brains out?"

You're missing the point completely, son.
The rifle was more than likely stolen from someone who had purchased it legally. Do you think America is filled with weapon dealers that sit around on youtube watching "how to make your own ak"-videos?

There might be weapons that are smuggled in, but they are far outnumbered by weapons that have once been owned legally.

Because that first shot would be in self defence, the second one would probably get you jail time since you are basically executing the bastard. Stupid i know but thats how the law works over there i hear.

It's not jail rape, when you can't feel your ass.

"Blake requires a certified nursing assistant to care for him 24 hours a day. The sheriff’s office has contracted nursing services for Blake that cost on an average about $25 per hour, said Carmen Van Leeuwen, director of nursing at the jail."

Hey at least that nursing assistant is making bank...gotta keep the Florida economy going somehow...

you're probably right, I'm just trying to stir up some topics that come to my head. I really don't know any facts/statistics in gun-related crimes between countries that allow guns opposed to those that don't.

but what if guns are outlawed? I know this kid most likely isn't part of any sort of organized crime ring dealing with smuggling in weapons and all of that, but don't you think this same kid (who is obviously willing enough to rob a house and shoot innocent people) wouldn't mind somehow (illegally) obtaining a gun?

sure, it may be a bit harder, but I'm sure it's nowhere near impossible. (again, I have no idea how things are, say in countries that have had guns outlawed before)

The point being if you stop the supply of guns it will be harder for everyone to get their hands on them...including criminals.

There's a tonne of statistics which support the prohibition of guns.

From a practical view using Sydney as an example, unless you knew the right people to go through and then had enough money to actually pay for a gun, chances are that one of the first people you'd come across while asking would be an undercover Federal Police agent.

Kind of off-putting for most of the population.

In America, gun prohibition is politically impossible. Here, a large proportion of people believe in a constitutional, non-negotiable right to own a gun. And if the government ever tried to outlaw guns, they'd have to confiscate over 200 million guns by the FBI's own estimates. It would essentially reverse over 200 years of legal precedent. It would be political suicide. That's not happening.
