Casio Privia PX-130 / Mopho Keys.... Anyone ever used/owned one?

Anyone ever used a Casio Privia PX-130? I'm shopping around for a weighted key Midi controller and the most affordable one I've seen was Studiologic for $299. A lot of you guys said that's a very good one. I've been taking piano classes at school, so there's times when I need to practice and I don't wanna use my MacPro with Akoustik Piano. The PX-130 is an electric piano and Midi Controller in one.

The other route would be spending more cash and buying a hard synth that has some decent keys, but I wouldn't be getting the full 88-keys. I thought about getting a Mopho Keys as it's only a few hundred more and I can use it as a synth, controller, and piano.

Any ideas?

Hey Woody, to be honest, the SL990 is your best best.

The best weighted midi keyboard out there is hands down the Doepfer PK88 - it's the go to for every major composer I know but it aint cheap, hard to find and doesn't even have bend wheels.

I think there's one which now has bend wheels and usb but it's even more expensive.

I just reckon the SL990 is the best you're going to find at that price.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. If I go over $500, I would much rather get a synth because I don't have any hard synths. lol Problem is, synths don't have the full 88 keys and not all of them have decent keys.

Right now in class, we're just learning the G7 chord, the sustain peddle, and the different loudness levels (mf, f, mp, p). I can't get the right loudness levels with my controller.

Off topic... I really love my Piano class. I think it's the only class I've taken in college that I really look forward to. My teacher is en awesome! He invited us to one of his concerts where they did experimental music using unorthodox methods such as running water through a saxophone, etc. Too bad I missed it cuz I was booked that night but I really wanted to go.

I had a privia in my undergrad. Honestly they aren't that bad. The added speaker is nice when you just want to do piano and not boot the computer. It was destroyed by my girlfriend who spilled her champagne glass but it did last 3 years. In fact she has destroyed 3 keyboards with her ing alcohol one being a kurzweil. But her parents did give me a yamaha mini grand for free so all is for given. But honestly. I don't trust a female within 5 feet of my work area. They just start dancing and spilling .

Honestly woody, I would go with the 990 - you may not like the synth sounds you get built in or change your mind about it and then you've paid the extra to have sounds you don't use.

I suppose the big advantage of having a synth (or built in sounds) would be that you don't need to switch your computer on to play or practice but personally, i'd go with the 990. For $299 it's a really good deal.

Oh, and ATX, bear in mind, the nord stage ex 88 key is over $3,000, before tax.

True, But It's the Best of the Best!

not really. The keyboard action is quite bad. If you are looking for authentic organ sounds, then yes but as an all purpose piano, not really what you want.
