Beef alert: Calvin Harris rages over Chris Brown rip-off
Perhaps one of the strangest feuds to erupt in recent memory is the burgeoning beef between Stereosonic superstar Calvin Harris and US pop smoothie Chris Brown, who Harris has accused of plagiarism over Twitter over the last couple of days.
The drama commenced a couple of days ago when the UK producer cast the first stone, tweeting about how he lost his (our words, not his) upon hearing the similarities between Brown’s lurdicrously named new single, Yeah 3x, and his own big hit from 2009, I’m Not Alone, saying he “choked on my cornflakes when i heard new Chris Brown single this morning”.
While Harris didn’t labour his point much further, he’s since had to deal with endless taunts and abuse from Chris Brown diehards incensed by his allegations of artistic theft, with one commenter leaving the rather amusing remark on Harris’ page, “were are you in the charts? oh wait your not cause your a bag of wank [sic]”. A bag of wank. Classic.
“Can all these Chris Brown stans stop it now please? You are all unbelievably offensive and ignorant beyond belief,” Harris responded to his overbearing cyber bullies. “I don’t care that you call me a ‘nobody’ : stealing is still stealing, doesn’t matter who you are! How are you going to call me irrelevant when his brand new song sounds just like my 2 year old song?!”
You can judge for yourself if the song’s a rip or not (hint: it is) with the comparison clips below, but we’d recommend Calvin to back off from here. After all, we saw what Chris Brown did to Rihanna. Jus’ saying. |

They're both awful. But yes, there are similarities. Do I give two s? Absolutely not. I guess we can let the courts decide. That is, if they can listen to at least 30 seconds of each one before blowing their brains out.
Ugh, at first I was sort of glad to see "electro" storming the mainstream scene but things have gotten way out of hand. Now it's a cheesy melody with a house/electro beat and some garbage vocals and you have a hit. It's pretty embarrassing. But hey, it's what the kids want right? :conf: |

the replies here are strangely similar to the aril brihka/shlomi aber thread.
maybe electronic music has finally reached that point where there can be no new sounds and even original work has already been done before. i don't mean that old argument "there is no originality, everything is based off of old stuff etc." -- i think these days, you can produce something original and it will find its match somewhere. there are only so many permutations you can make of a set form. |
