The thrill of the Summit series wore off by 1973 and there hasn't been anything to party about since then.

I was on a cruise party last night....they only played classic rock but that doesn't matter.

there have been numerous threads show casing this technology already.

many people said it wouldnt take off....but i know of a handful of people who have actually ordered this . and now you are seeing it pop up in places. its cool to have for sure but ugh not really a fan for club stuff. you are there to dance/enjoy the music...not watch some clown play on a touch screen imo

that software seems pretty lame compared to traktor

^^^
This software IS traktor.

you need traktor pro in order to run it, all this software does is offer a touch sensitive GUI input that patches into traktor. hardly ground breaking, and quite limited when compared to a stand alone, midi mapped traktor setup as well.

Latency is also way off by the looks of it.

i find this to be quite lame actually
Fabricated_T.O.
It really just seems like eye candy with no real advantage or purpose

That sir, is a Richie Hawtin quote, and I completely agree! :p

eqing properly, phrasing properly, timing your transitions to be flawless as well as many other things that the sync button doesn't do.

i'm not a fan of the sync button at all, and i still mix with records for the most part....but it just always strikes me as funny when people who have never done it know what is what.

Im not quite sure how to take your post.

Are you suggesting I dont know what is what?

Ive been spinning for over 12 years, and played many a venue including Guv in this city which isnt bad for some one who has no intention of being a "dj" and just likes to spin as a hobby.

If not, carry on.

Might I add your addition to the skills is very bang on.

I don't think the medium itself should be the one that's on trial here. I'm sure there are DJs who could make it work and deliver a great set along the lines of points made by many here including Kaniz and Goebels. Then there are those who can't for whatever reason. When CDJs, Serato, and all the rest came along the same arguments were made, but the point is technology can be used to set a party on fire just like old school records.

Having said that I'm with the vinyl purists in that there's some things that only happen with ones and twos - and threes. Like see a DJ take a record off the platter, dig in his/her crate to pick up another, cue it through the headphones, and then bring the mix through the stacks setting me ablaze.

:D

the medium isn't on trial here...its the DJs that are on trial. IMO you no longer are a DJ when you use anything other then discs (be it vinyl or CDs)to play music. You become an entertainer.

Isn't it just semantics? Yes, DJ does stand for 'disc' jockey, but in the broader sense DJs have always meant someone who plays the music at the party - at least to me. What medium they choose to employ is besides the point in my view. The entertainer aspect of DJing is a whole other ballgame for me and has more in relation to performing like a rock star at a concert than being in the booth tasked with making people dance. And perhaps, this particular contraption is geared more to the former than the latter. But, I've never seen it used so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Cheers.
