What Subwoofer? - What Are People Using?

Hey people :)
I've had Alessis M1 Active MKII's for a few years now and am really wanting a sub to pick up those really low, earth tremlbing/shaking frequencies. My monitors are good for trance but I've been delving into a few other genres, namely DnB, and I'm really needing a sub.
What subs are people using, and how are they hooking them up with studio monitors? I have an M-Audio audiophile USB, so I take it I would need to buy some kind of reciever to plug the sub into, or maybe a sub would have an audio input for my speakers and then some kind of built in crossover? |

| i have the genelec matched sub for the old school 1029 series. Probably better off just using a higher end speaker with more bass response. |

| I'm not using a sub. Sometimes using a sub you over compensate for the bass. |

Exactly. The m1mk2's aren't exactly worth getting a sub for - you'd be bettre getting monitors that have better bass response.
I don't know how many times I've had to ing say this on this forum, but we don't mix in 2.1 so why would your monitors be configured that way.
There's also no standard for crossovers so every sub is different and then you have the headache of pairing them with your monitors, not to mention placement of the sub etc.
It's just not worth it when you can mix perfectly well on a pair of monitors.
If it's just because you like (for some reason) lots of bass for listening pleasure, then fine but it's really not a good idea for stereo monitoring. |

| I would also say to get an all-in-one-box speaker. There are many monitors that have three speakers... one for sub, another for mid, and a tweeter. That's what I use. Focal Twin6s. |

With an M-audio Audiophile USB? Would be like putting diesel in your aston martin. |
