Personally, I think they should just off and let them wear what they want to.

Yes, but you're a dick head.

But immigrants eventually do integrate with the rest of the populations after a couple of generations or so. I can see why a government may want to forbid sharia law, lest someone practises honour killings and whatnot. But burqas!? What if the women themselves want to wear them?

Immigrants do,which is a beautiful thing in some instances but the point of these religious laws (which is an oxymoron in itself) is to stop the integration and to force new inclusions to only integrate in to the religion.

Don't let them fool you - it's not about woman wanting to wear them to show their faith, it's about stopping randy men from looking at other men's wives, or allowing women sexual power. Suadi only just (two months ago) started allowing women to work as it was banned before (based on religious law) to stop them from having their own money or independence.

Currently, I think s law banning them is less intrusive of law allowing it to be potentially forced on women which is the current sitation. Men don't have to wear them so why do women?

And anyway, I find hipsters just as offensive, and I think most of the they wear should be banned as well.

Then they're free to emigrate to another country which doesn't have a strong public policy interest in protecting women from religious coercion?

if i go to a muslim country, i wouldn't whine that i could not drink alcohol, or that my wife had to dress up like a speed bump to go outside...it is up to me to not go right?

their country, their rules...our country, our rules. no like, don't come...that simple.

You might not whine because it doesn't bother you, but maybe also because of the consequences of whining out loud?

I think the question is this: do the women wearing burqas, who others are offended by, wear them out of choice or out of coercion? And if it is choice, how real is their choice?

Making this law assumes that they are being coerced.

To my understanding this debate is over a human rights issue, the right to dress as you please, but shouldn't they ensure that someone's rights are being trampled on first? Either that or it's xenophobia/racism masquerading as faux human rights concern.

Just some points for discussion, I don't know much of the background to this story.

this whole freedom this freedom that stuff gets to me. it isn't true, only something people are told to make them feel better and keep working for the ruling class.

ironically it is almost like the new religion.

I won’t speak for countries like turkey whose secularism is fairly delicate, but in advanced western countries like mine it is absurd to tell women they can’t wear what they like.

Do it. And try to make a deposit.

Every country has its own policies, if you can't adapt to them then off back home. I lived with my family in an Islamic country for the better part of my life. No other religion was allowed to be displayed outside of the home. Not even in the way of lighting candles outside on Diwali (Hindu festival of lights). Didn't bother us. We adapted.

I'm glad to be out of that dank, urine soaked hell hole, but while there we adhered to the country's policies.

If you can't even hang around at the beach without wearing a full sleeve track suit and a ing peep scarf over your head in the summer heat then you've got issues, so does your religion.

Adapt, or off.
