so giant is no longer affiliated with a venue in san diego?
big edm clubs going latin...1015,now spin.(1015 is still bringing in headliners for the main room tho)

It's only a matter of time before one of the few places that plays EDM goes under. It sucks, but it's going to happen. You have 3-4 big EDM players on the scene and not enough demand for it. I have been to (in one night) 2-3 different clubs down here in SD when a headliner DJ is playing and it's dead. It's only a matter of time until a place falls off the map. Investors don't like loosing money for long periods of time.

No. Just to clarify (from what I've heard) Giant still has partial ownership of the venue (they never owned it alone to begin with), but they don't want to handle management since they have so many venues and other things they are sorting out right now.
Spin is trying to keep bringing in crowds, but doesn't have funding to back spending the overabundance of money on headliners that Voyeur and Fluxx (well... that's actually Eventvibe) does. Venues gotta make money any way they can mate, the venue hasn't been spending it on top tier talent and has gone more underground. Of course, I don't expect most people here to pay attention to it so I'm not surprised if you haven't noticed. |

oh i've noticed. i check the giant website every couple of weeks for updates since i don't live in LA/OC so i have to plan hitting shows out that way. the place started out on FIRE with the talent that was being booked, then sd just got kicked to the curb.
i just checked giant website, no more fridays in san diego link under weekly clubs.
instead it says "wednesdays at stingaree" but has this listed

Interesting. I hadn't heard a thing about a switch. The WEd thing could be a Mark Farina residency (god knows he played here like 8-12 times last year) that Giant is helping with. It's a shame because if it is on Wednesday, you wont see me there. That's that crap part about Wed/Thurs shows for the working man... no luck getting to work the next day early.
I saw the giant logo still up at Spin this week I do believe, and I didn't see it on the Stingaree flyer for the MF show so I am not sure what is going on really with this news. I only know what I've been told to this point. |
