DJs and Speakers

Good Day.
well actually i dont know if THIS is where to post this,but what the hell:i noticed that(a long time ago, always forgot to ask) the dj spot(as in where the dj is doing the djing) always has a set of huge speakers for the dj.Now my question is are these running on a different volume level, or have different controls or something?And if not, how isit that there are still djs out there who arent completely deaf?(and could that maybe be the reason why there is so much ty trance out there nowadays?)

| The speakers in a DJ booth are nearly always on a separate amplifier from the main club system and the DJ normally has a separate volume control for them. However In some clubs they don't... some DJs like to turn it up deafeningly loud anyway! |

| every single live amplified act uses "speakers" for monitoring. Not just trance djs. And just like almost every rock or loud music act tends to suffer permanent ear damage, djs are no exceptions. I would say it is worse with djing as they tend to play longer sets. |

| almost all dj mixers have a booth volume knob which is the volume for those monitors in the dj booth. yes and it is deafening but as you can control it yourself its your own responsibility. just like with the headphones. sometimes the djs play so loud on the booth monitors they dont even notice that the sound is gone on the mains due to some overheating amps or whatever. witnessed that many times. booth monitors are extremely important though. |

Very good point. Has happened to people before while i've been at a gig. Quite funny really :)
First thing i always have to do when i'm playing after most dj's is turn down the booth volume. Insane how loud kids play their music these days. (says an ancient 27 year old!)
I'm going to kick myself for not investing in hearing aids when shares in those companies start taking off in years to come. |

haha good thought!!Cant you put some earplugs or something in?i heard an interview with AvB where he talks about that..or Shure has some weird thingies that 'block' the sound if it gets above a certain db...am i making this up? |
