A/B Records - 'Best of the Best' Engineered EDM Records?
View this Thread in Original format

No stupid videos etc. This is for the benfit of everyone!

Best engineered EDM records over last year or two?

- TRANSPARENT, TIGHT, PUNCHY, DYNAMICS, LOUD

The type of record you would A/B against. The type of record that sounds EPIC in the club or at a festival.

Sander Van Doorn - Daddyrock

Incredibly tight, punchy low end. Very clean production. Less is more and this is proof.

Marcel Woods

Wood's productions were head and shoulders above John O'Callaghan, Wippenberg, Andy Moor etc. @ Godskitchen in Australia. Very clean, very tight and good dynamics (didn't sound squashed to a pulp). No problems with a muddy low end like the others.

Just about any Chris Reece production with probably one or 2 exceptions that are a bit below par.

wolfgang gartner's tracks are my favorite as far as sound quality.

This one is very easy, listen to the detials in Melo by Eric PRydz.
Production wise the best EDM track ever made.
jupiterone
eric kupper - planet k
iz & diz - love vibe (pepe bradock's "confiote de bits" remix)

Pjanno has more dynamics. If you compare it to the rest of EDM, the dynamics are off the charts.

I think pretty much everyone will agree that Armin's Imagine album is superb production wise. That's the kind of quality I'm aiming at, but slightly more compressed/limited. Mirage might be even a little bit better; just listen to the title track and Not Giving up on Love - everything is crisp, defined and punchy.

I'm also a big fan of First State's Changing Lanes album sound wise. In fact, most of his productions are insanely well mixed, yet loud as . Wolfgang Gartner's stuff is of course superb; there's an interview with him somewhere on the web where he explains a little how he does things.

Also you should check out Infected Mushroom's Legend of The Black Shawarma - really punchy and clean sounding. There's also an interview where they explain their . And of course, BT's newest is insane production wise, but I don't like the music.
In fact, most recent releases from big edm artists today sound really great.

A big exception would be Tiesto's Kaleidoscope - who the mixed this? Seriously. And I also don't like albums that sound like they've been hipassed at 50hz - i.e. Gareth Emery's Northern Lights comes to mind, but there are many others.

, I feel like your in my head sometimes.

, that came out weird. I just mean out musical tastes are incredibly similar.

Also, jaytech productions are incredibly well engineered. Tracks like Genesis, Neon Void, and Aha are just stunning in terms or production quality. So much punch on bass and and clarity in pads.

+1 on Dousk. Florence is just so intricate and layered.

For just straight up dynamics, Prydz does have it down, but I feel some of that credit is because of the tracks being so simple in the elements they use.

Also for dynamics, check out Claude Von Stroke - especially Vocal Chords. That track sound incredible on a loud system.

Going Oldschool now. Eye Q - Firedance is incredible in terms of the mix and I still have a deep appreciation for Gat Decor - Passion, the drums just have so much energy, and that was made 15 years ago.
