Making a table for turntables

I'm planning to make a table/coffin case for my mixer and decks during the remainder of the summer just for a small project thingy. I have the idea set for the top part to hold the decks and mixer, but I'm still pondering how I should build the legs.
And should I build this outta wood? I have tons of spare lumber in my garage from another family member's usage.
Any help(dimensions and weight of TTs, ideas, etc...) would be appreciated.

| well all u should too really is use the top surface and cut otu squeare the size of ur tables and then make it the depth of ur tables so they fit into the table...the basic ...get what im sayen? |

make sure you build that with BIG legs ... something that'll make it stable to death resistant to getting driven over by a semi
you want to make sure you us plenty of re enforcers to make sure the things gonna be stable!
you should try to decorate building something like this lol :

| well, if you make a coffin for your mixer and tables then you have to buy some soft foam to put on the inside to hug the tables and mixer... you can make it out of wood but on the outside you should put somekind of hard layer...(the stuff that you can just stick on) and foldable legs would help alot |

You might want to check out the Quik-Lok Z-72:
It has adjustable height that reaches up to 39". I also own CD players so I use the 2nd tier shelf to hold that. If you just have turntables, get the Z-71. It's the single tier version. 123dj.com sells the Z-71 for 139. |

I just made myself a turntable table :D
I bought a shelf-like device from IKEA.
Here's what I did,
I bought 3 shelf "ends" if you will...a normal person would buy 2 of these, to construct a shelf with 3 or 4 horizontal shelves. I put one on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right.
I also bought 4 shelves, BUT, in actuallity, it is 2 long shelves. One shelf is by my knees, and the other shelf is the table top where my equipment rests.
I also cut the tops off of the ends of the shelves, in order to have the top shelf about stomach level. I left about 3 inches on the shelf ends, so after I place my equipment in there, I can put some wood on the outside of the shelf ends. It give the equipment a "sunk-in" look. You can also fill the inside gaps with black foam or something.
My table was just simple pine wood, you could also buy some gray carpet (the carpet you see on a sub box in someone's car) and wrap it around the shelves/legs/etc.
Materials were just under $100 and it took me about 2 hours to put it all together. I know its nothing spectacular, but it works. I'm planning on putting some gray carpeting on it, and also enclose the turntables.

| U4ea...that's exatcly what I'm looking for, but I don't wanna buy one. I've got the materials to make it, but I just can't figure out a way to hold the thing up comfortably and stably. |

| i been designing some custom shelfs for myself as well lately cos my rooms getting in a bit of a state! ill try and connect my scanner up later and post up some of my ideas for a unit! but remember they have been designed to fit exactly in my room so some changes may be needed! :clown: |

hey dJohn,
If you'd like your table to be more secure, pick up a few metal bracket supporters at your local hardware store. Attach them to the top/bottom corners of the back of your table, put it in an "X" configuration. To make it super sturdy, insert a bolt/nut where the 2 metal brackets cross in the middle. Unfortunately, mine aren't pictured, I covered them with a sheet to hide them and my cables/wires. If what I said is unclear, just go to the hardware store and tell them what you are trying to do, they should point you to the metal brackets.
I had the same problem, if you don't secure the back with something, the table will be extremely unsecure/wobbly.
