Homework was definitely the album that started it all for me. This sounds like a different evening out at the very least.

SOS Does Daft Punk's Homework!!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Halifax based Scientists of Sound (SOS) are coming to Toronto for a performance of their wildly successful show "SOS does Daft Punk's HOMEWORK".

Featuring drummer Bob Deveau from Grand Theft Bus, guitarist Craig Mercer and keyboardist Aaron Collier of The Jimmy Swift Band, SOS crank out an amazing tribute to one of the greatest dance albums of all time with incredible visuals and special effects. Don't miss it!

...SOS will also be performing original songs from their debut album coming out summer of 2010 and joined by Toronto live-electronic act Dynamo & Badnutbeats.

Daft Punk

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, the two French twenty-something DJs who make up Daft Punk, are relentless dance-music aficionados and historians. And unlike many of their contemporaries, their interests don't just lie in the electronic beats that have been rockin' the clubs since the mid-80s. The two knob-twiddlers are just as well-versed in Eurodisco grooves, Chic, and the old-school rhythms of Afrika Bambaata and the Sugarhill Records catalog, as they are in the Chicago house and Detroit techno traditions.

When they're not assembling catchy-as-hell bits of electro-pop ("Around The World"), throwing down slabs of minimalist funk ("Da Funk"), or marrying Miami bass to Kraftwerkian blips ("Oh Yeah"), Homem-Christo and Bangalter try to impart a little knowledge. On "Teachers," they use a Ween-esque distorted vocal line to name-check a broad list of influences that includes Brian Wilson, Dr. Dre, and Armand Van Helden. Their broad focus, utopian determination and, of course, their way with a beat earn Daft Punk's HOMEWORK a well-deserved "A".

"Da Funk" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

"Around The World" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

Spin - Ranked #76 in Spin Magazine's "90 Greatest Albums of the '90s & Ranked #16 on Spin's list of the "Top 20 Albums Of The Year."

"...Weirdo-funk, then, with lashings of trash-culture, cool and crunchy breakbeats. Daft Punk always sound original, inventive, exciting and dangerous..." Melody Maker
Ranked #17 on Melody Maker's list of 1997's "Albums Of The Year."
NME (Magazine) - Ranked #11 in NME's 1997 Critics' Poll.

Daft Punk are currently working on the soundtrack to the upcoming sequel TRON: Legacy.

Scientists of Sound (Halifax)
http://www.myspace.com/loopingmadnessduo

This new electro supergroup features Craig Mercer (JSB) on guitar, bass, and effects, Aaron Collier (JSB) on keyboards, bass, and effects, Bob Deveau (Grand Theft Bus) on drums, and Colin Crowell (Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees) on trumpet and production. Their performance features live looping and manipulation on a veritable space ship of knobs, faders, and buttons, and a fully programmed light and video show. Performed in full costume and face masks, the visual impact of an SOS performance is as powerful as the heavy hitting beats they create.

Dynamo & Badnutbeats (Toronto, ON)

A couple of trouble-makers who will remain a mystery until further notice, due to the fact that they must endure secret lives as humanoids who fuction in normal society working for a very large corporation that makes pretty much everything, so as to further their musical and artistic goals in hopes of beautifying this world we are slowly destroying.... and intriguing the minds of the many beautiful souls who live here with a glorious onslaught of sound and light with which they can lose their minds to, and not be judged. A hommage to the ages of enlightenment, and great psychedelic experiences still shared by a vast majority of truth-seekers. Come trip with us, and enjoy the ride.

plus special guest Djs TBA

See you there!

A part of me thinks this would be pretty cool but another part of me thinks this could be a total train wreck.

If the wife wants to go then maybe.

Jealous I won't be able to make this. This sounds like incredible fun. Homework was one of my fave albums growing up, and really turned me onto EDM.
Orko
Anybody from Jimmy Swift Band being involved is amazing. Those guys do live trance-rock, which is amazing.

Thanks for the heads up Kotsy, I'm going to try and make it.
