I was a big fan, but it just hurts when he would sometimes say something really wrong (people remember the bad more than the good I guess).
I'm sure it ultimately has to do with the networks (HBO in his case), it is not like the guy is doing this from the goodness of his heart, he is still an entertainer getting paid the bucks to entertain.

Maher's intentions seem to be okay but he has made quite a few claims and has been called out on it.
