i've noticed that, no matter what genre i intend to produce lately (usually when i have an idea, i think, hmm, i want it to be like such-and-such a genre), it always ends up being very prog-housey. i don't know what the my deal is. for example, i recently cut apart a kollektiv turmstrasse track that i wanted to turn into a jazzy number, but so far it's turned into some near-cheese 2000-era prog house. sample available on request :P
anyone else feel pigeon-holed into certain genres? any alleviation? |

its who you are man dont fight it, its whats closest to your hearth. let yourself grow out of it by making tons of such prog-tracks instead of forcing yourself making stuff that you obviously dont even care for, obviously since you are a tranceaddict for almost a decade right? maybe your tracks are good? jazz most definitely is not. |

ive noticed that about you long ago. while your tracks are well produced and are generally alot better than the most around here, its somehow tough to remember them and see them apart, theres alot of the same going on and they lack a little identity. thats actually the problem with many of the good producers here. not that im any better, im just saying. |

actually on the contrary i grew out of the prog-house phase years ago and most of my productions are deep house. lol
@ nik i agree with what you're saying, a lot of my tracks also have similar structural elements as well that i'm trying to shy away from. it's just that a lot of edm has that same formula regardless of genre (ie intro main groove break main groove outro). all of my is sounding same-y, i guess. at least imo. |

its not about the structural elements, the groove etc. its about the main hook. what is the main element of the track, the element that people will remember? is it there at all? what makes this track special? is it a sampled loop or a synthlead or a distorted reversed sound-fx? or is it a cowbell? analog sidechain is not a main element. ok ill leave now. |

for me the bpm of the project tend to be the anchor for the outcome , if it's low bpm ~128 , the track tend to be progressive if higher it would be trancy , i don't plan on doing it so , but it just does |
