Well, this is the interview I recently did with Ronski Speed. I hope you appreciate my work and enjoy it :)
----
1. Hello, Ronny! Why did you choose the alias “Ronski Speed”?
RS: Hi, I signed my mails like that in the very beginning. Later we were searching for a name and suddenly, there it was. Actually a mix between my real name and an 80’s Band.
2. In 2002 the track “I’m alone” was released under the alias “Sun Decade”. Did you think that it would become a hit, being supported by almost all big names in the trance scene?
RS: Actually I loved the song and the very first Ronski Speed Remix, so I gave it to Paul Van Dyk when we visited his Radio Show on Fritz radio. He played it like hell, so in the end everybody liked it and it became a big hit.
3. Let’s talk about the label “Euphonic “. When were you asked to work for it?
RS: In 1997 Kyau & Albert wanted to found a label so they asked me and some other friends to join the family. So this is what it is. We just continued what we have started few years ago.
4. Through the years, you have released tracks under different aliases - Sun Decade, RST, Shadowrider. Do you intend to use them to release new material or you are going to stick to “Ronski Speed” for everything you produce?
RS: I actually released a RST remix lately as it was more bangin’ sound. Also I’m still working on Sun Decade singles like “Lasting Light” and Remixes too.
5. Your debut album “Pure Devotion” was released in 2008. Would you reveal something more about it? When did you decide to take up such a serious project, how long did it take to finish it and are you satisfied with the final result?
RS: Oh yeah this took me a long long time, like over 2 years to produce all the tracks. I don’t wanted to make a quick bunch of tracks like you can hear in so many other albums. Also I wanted to make not only trance. Also breaks, chill and house tunes on it. I wanted to keep the chance to release some remixes of the track later. They were running very well like “deep devine”, “aural slave” or “something happened on the way to heaven”
6. “Pure Devotion”, however, does not include only trance tunes. There are some tracks on there in styles, which are not typical for you, like chill-out (”Something happened on the way to Heaven”, “Shadow of The Sun”), melodic breaks (“Into Your Love”). Can we expect to hear more musical experiments from you?
RS: At the moment I really like to produce for the floor. So all my tracks and mixes need to be working on the the dancefloor. We’ll see how it is developing in the future.
7. You have been producing music for a long time. I’m going to ask you a question which is of interest not only to electronic music fans. Can a person, who knows thoroughly the software/hardware they use to produce music, but is not musically trained, produce quality music only by trusting their inner sense, so to say? Are you musically trained yourself?
RS: I wasn’t very good in musical education. I actually decide only from my ears and from my heart what I like or not. Actually this gives you borders but also open up boarders. Both is fine.
8. The trance scene and the electronic music as a whole owe a lot to Germany. Influential people like Sven Vath, Oliver Lieb, Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Gate and a lot more who have contributed to the success of this kind of music over the years are from there. Are there enough trance parties in your country, because I am under the impression that these particular names play more often abroad than in their home country.
RS: You are right, trance has only a very small scene in Germany, besides PvD & Vath (who is far away from trance in between) there are hardly bigger names that could lead a party. Actually we on euphonic doing pretty nice parties in Berlin and Dresden with international guest acts and the crowd is growing on that. Our last party achieved over a 1000 visitors. It keeps us working on that and hoping for the future.
9. Would you reveal something to your fans – what do you think about people who jump up and down in front of the decks, trying to attract the attention of the DJ, or type messages/track requests on their mobile phones and show them to you while you play? Do you feel uncomfortable when your fans do that?
RS: Actually not. Usually the fans show that they like the music and don’t disturb me too much. Also a Dj has to concentrate and mix in between the set.
10. What are your plans for the short term – do you intend to release another album or you are concentrated on your career as a DJ?
RS: At the moment I’m flooded by remix requests and really want to do as much as I can. But also my own new tracks like “A Sign” & “B Sign” will be released in November 10 on euphonic. So hoping for some good feedbacks. Besides a lot of DJ-ing. I’m always trying to keep that in certain boarders as some touring is really heavy I’m trying to stay maybe 1 weekend at home every month (which usually hardly happens)
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Wish you all the best!
RS:Thanx and all the best for u all. |
