I'm surprised when widescreen TV's were introduced, they didn't introduce them as cinematic wide screen TV's. 16:9 AFAIK was not used at all until HD or Widescreen TV's were introduced. Movie theaters had 'wider' screens, with a ratio of 2.35:1 (I've also heard 2.37 & 2.39).
Only this year have TV's started being introduced with that aspect ratio.
I suppose they would have just been too narrow vertically for TV watching... |

Actually, most movies shot for cinema have a resolution that is more than enough for HD afaik. It's just a matter of a new master transfer. |
Yes. |

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that while movie technology is continuously advancing, the actual movies are getting worse and worse?
In 50 years you can probably connect a plug directly to your brain and experience the movie as if you were standing in the scene, but the only thing to watch will be the remake of High School Musical and Avatar, Part 23. |

Indeed. Given the trend in screen sizes over the last decade, imagine what size screens we'll be watching at home in another 10 years' time? We're gonna need better resolutions than 1080p to go with that. |

| They had one of these huge screens on display in a local store. The damn thing was almost as big as i was :wtf: ANd to borow a line from Futurama, the video running on it had a better resolution than real life. Seriously, i would have that instead of a window, if it wasnt for the fact that the sticker on it said 50.000 EUR :nervous: |
