Probably the crappy economy lol. I see a lot of companies selling some of their products at deeply discounted prices in order to drum up sales. It all started with the AudioMidi Ultra Analog No-Brainer a year ago (again, $200 synth was going for only $15 for a limited time).
That proved to be very successful and profitable for AAS (makers of Ultra Analog and String Studio). Since then, other companies have jumped on the bandwagon. Off-hand, I can think of the following:
1. Like RIGHT after the Ultra Analog no-brainer, Image-Line sold their Drumaxx and Harmless plugins for a $15 intro price before being raised to their intended list prices.
2. Cakewalk Z3ta+ was going for only $20 for a month or so.
3. Xils3 Le...$200 synth droped to $20 for a limited time.
4. Cakewalk's recent $99 special on Rapture and Dimension Pro together (this sale still has 2 days left -- ends October 31st).
With people not having as much disposable income lately, I can see how that would hurt the VSTi plugin business. Tne only companies not taking a huge hit in sales these days are makers of industry-standard, high-dollar software....Pro-Tools, Wave Arts plugins, TDM/RTAS format synths, etc. The people who buy those items tend to be the people who make their living in music and often have a real need to spend some coin in order to do a project (and get a tax writeoff for it or invoice the client for reimbursement of their purchases).
The guys that develop VSTi plugins are generally aiming at people who make music for fun and not their livelihood, so for a hobbyist, the spending is optional, not mandatory like it is for professionals. .... now I'm just waiting for Wave Arts to do a no-brainer sale and blow everything I just said on its head haha.
BTW, for those wondering...AudioMidi is a legit company, not some sleazy idiot selling cracked software. You actually get the legal software, licensed to you, for that price. |

A dont think thats guna happen any time soon, if it did though, the "hobbyist" would actually buy their stuff and not use team airs! |

Well although it's early days and I've not messed around with this much, I've gotta say I'd be pissed off if I spent $200 on this thing.
Really not massively impressed by the patches at all.
In fact the samples that comes bundled with FL Studio sound far better and are easier to manipulate.
But as I said, early days and all. |

I only spent $20 which is nothing really.
What sucks though is I only ever use free stuff. My go to synths are TS404, 3xOSC and Synth1.
It sucks that I discover a costly synth to suck so hard, but again, I've not messed with it properly.
I have no idea how to even begin creating realistic sounding string instruments though which is why I bought this, hoping I could get some nice orchestral pads and things going on, but so far they really don't sound nice.
Bummer. |
