Hey!
This is a email i got from Chicane Yahoo news group:
"Here is some significant news for everyone - from the front page of MUSIC
WEEK, the major UK industry paper. It explains why you have all been waiting
so long to hear some new Chicane tracks.
There are a number of inaccuracies in this article but Nick is very pleased
with the settlement. He cannot give any more details due to the
confidentiality clauses in the settlement agreement. However he can say that
he hopes to have some new music out very soon. Watch the press and this
space for a further announcement soon."

CHICANE CUES UP DEAL AS ACTION IS SETTLED
Electronic artist Chicane is expected to sign a deal with a major label over
the coming weeks, after reaching an out-of-court settlement with Xtravaganza
Recordings which marks the end of his relationship with the independent
label.
A dispute between the two parties which concerned the delivery of the second
album of Chicane's two album deal with the label, reached the High Court
last Monday. But proceedings were halted at the end of the first day when a
confidential agreement was reached. Both Chicane and Xtravaganza declined to
comment as Music Week went to press last Friday.
It is understood that Xtravaganza had rejected material which Chicane - aka
producer Nick Bracegirdle - had delivered as the second album of the deal
because the label deemed it to be of unsatisfactory quality. The first day's
hearing heard evidence from witnesses including Instant Karma chairman and
former BPI chairman Rob Dickins, that the album submitted did meet the
criteria of the artist's deal with the label.
The settlement marks the exit of the biggest-selling album act on
Xtravaganza's roster.
Chicane scored a number one single for the label in 2000 with "Don't Give
Up" which featured vocals from Bryan Adams. The parent album "Behind The
Sun" was the first album under the two album deal at the centre of the
dispute.
Chicane sprung to prominence in 1996 with the Ibiza chillout favourite
"Offshore" which has subsequently enjoyed success through use in a number of
TV programme themes and films. Bracegirdle is published by Warner Chappell
Music.

Well this could either mean the material sucks or that Xtravaganza's expections are too high. I'm really anticipating hearing the new material because it's new chicane and I read a quote somewhere by Chicane saying that he no longer wants to produce trance. I don't know if this means chillout music as well. Chicane's last production was that song with Cher and that wasn't that great but hopefully the new stuff will be good. |

Great to hear some news on Chicane...Nick is my favourite producer and it's been *way* too long since he's released anything fresh under the Chicane/Disco Citizens name.
I hope he hasn't lost his touch though...I can't believe that Xtravaganza wouldn't accept his material because it wasn't high enough quality...I'm personally hoping that the album goes further down the chilled path, possibly blazing some new trails in the process! |

Hmmm ... 'of unsatisfactory quality' ... my ass. I've always considered Chicane to be a complete master of chilled trance, and even his weaker stuff has always had impeccable production values.
Nope I reckon what's going on here is that the label was pushing for a whole album worth of "Don't give up"s because they knew that would be the easy cash cow, and Nick didn't wanna go for it. He's obviously branched out in some new musical direction, and freaked out the label management in the process.
Should be bloody interesting to hear this hotly-disputed album when it comes out anyway ... |

They probably want him to do maybe a more progressive sound or really uplifting stuff thats making money now while he wants to continue with chillout material but hey, thats what his fans love and he's the master of. |
