It was the homosexuals, if they didn't exist... unicorns with rainbows wouldn't exist and therefore trance wouldn't be so cheesy.
And why do many people still think of The iT in Amsterdam when hearing tracks like these? Far more gay than any current cheesy trance ever was:

"The real problem for house music is that it has never had any critical forum. Those few, like myself, who pipe up when things are patently, obviously ed up are shouted down by DJs and promoters who should know better. There is still much to celebrate within house, but when the crap rises to the surface, most are either too busy networking, counting their own money or getting faced to speak up. True constructive critisism is born of concern and a dream of just how good things could be. House music doesn't need any more people brushing things under the carpet. It needs more people who are in a position to change things by making their private post-club fears public."

Wow some pretty interesting articles, oldskool club critics always goes back to Chicago and/or the Haciender in Manchester amongst other things lol.
I think clubbings changed allot since this guy was involved though, hence the dated articles. I'm in Manchester on Friday for Pete Tong/Chucky :D

Yeah, he was writing in the 1980s and 1990s when these things were actually happening. His website is just an archive of his writing from that period, but I love reading music writing written at that time, before the whole thing became encased in the amber of history.
And if you're going to make the trip to Manchester on Friday, at least go see Derrick May & 808 State, because they're playing in town on that night.
