Probably the most major update yet for Sonar, including a totally redesigned (and very customizable) GUI. Anyone notice all the similarities to PreSonus Studio One?
Looks 10 times better now than it did before. Got to love that cheesy marketing.

I like the way that DAWs are moving back towards having EQs next to the mixer, rather than having to open up a plugin.

Wow, that looks impressive. The perfect blend of Cubase, Studio One, and Live. This is very tempting, but will have to see where Steinberg goes with Cubase 6 before making a final decision.

i love how they call their native compressors legendary yet the product has yet to be released \. Little premature. I suppose the video was made to impress idiots but man they sure pandered to the lowest common denominator. Pretty sure they used the words phat, pro and Huge sound.

They're referring to the two classic compressors (SSL 4000 and UA 1176) that they are modeled after.

It's simple marketing jargon. Surely any Mac user is familiar with it. But, if these are your only complaints about X1, you should stop by the Cakewalk forums and hear some REAL whining. :p

So, I've been using X1 for the last two evenings and, despite encountering a few very minor bugs/issues and getting accustomed to finding my way around the new interface, X1 is pretty phenomenal and highly configurable. People who have complained about the old Sonar interface will probably have little to complain about now. The new Smart Tool (a multi-mode context-based edit tool for both MIDI and audio) is a really nice workflow enhancer and the Pro Channel is a very nice and usable addition to the tracks/busses.
Overall, it looks and feels a bit more like Studio One and Project5 (discontinued Cakewalk DAW) and even a *little* more like Cubase IMO. Time will tell, but I think that this new version is going to be a game-changer for many people. The response to X1 has been so surprising and overwhelming that Cakewalk actually had to shut down its online store and delay downloads for an hour this morning for server maintenance to allow them to keep up with the unexpected volume of sales.
