there are aesthetic reasons why you might want to cut rather than boost but same can be said for boosting. There are some null tests around where one EQ is boosted and then the reverse operation via cutting. There are also some interesting information floating around regarding EQs in that they are all the same in the digital domain. The only difference is I suppose workflow and the overlying preset which you start off with. Why i mean is that you can replicate any given EQ setting with any other parametric EQ and it will null.

So in other words spending hundreds of dollars on an EQ plugin like, for instance, I don't know, the Sonnox EQ is a waste of money? Huh.
Logic's stock EQ seems to work perfectly fine for me.

Why? Kaskade's done it, mind you it was for house but I'm sure it can still sound great on trance. I don't know why there seems to be some stigma against male... voices... in the dance music world lol. It only sounds homoerotic if you make grunting noises lol.

I wouldn't say that. The eqs that cost alot probably have a workflow that favours a certain sound characteristic. You could get the same sound from any eq if your ears are good enough but again , it might take you longer.
As far as the male vocal thing, I agree. They just don't work unless it is a black guy.

Some of the biggest trance producers have had real success with male vocalists.
also, does anyone know how to raise the overall volume of a song without having it clipping? i ask this because sometimes when you export out of logic, it automatically lowers the volume so it doesnt clip....but it lowers it too much :(
to solve this you have to lower the volumes of almost every track so none of them clip but when you do that, the over volume lowers too! any way around this loop?

Oh my. You need to look at the tutorial master list on here before you continue. Learn about limiting and compression, and it's lowering the volume because you have normalize checked, you shouldn't, but also your mix shouldn't peak above -3DB before you start to do any mastering like compression and limiting... but yeah if I were to explain what I know to you I'd just be reciting the same information that can be found in a million places on the web, lol.
And the kick still sounds super off, change the sample, it just doesn't fit in the track.

NSYNC had success. What is your point. There is just something fundamentally wrong with male vocals in dance. I can't explain why but there is. It just doesn't fit unless it is some black guy. IT didn't work for disco and it still doesn't work for EDM.

Depends on the kind of success he was referring to, as in successfully fantastic tracks, or tracks that were successful in terms of sales.
I still disagree with you, but you know. :P

simple formula really. Why do guys dance, mostly because girls dance. Girls like hearing females singing. It also makes guys feel less queer dancing and the gays love it too. It is a win win. You will always be making the better decision having female rather than male vocals in a dance tune. Unless it is as I said above a black guy. That is the only exception.

BT, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Ultrabeat, Armin Van Buuren, Richard Durand, Leftfield, Matt Darey, Andy Gray, have all had success with male vocalists ....DOH!
What is so difficult to understand about my point? Despite what you think, you don't know everything.
P.S. I generally prefer female vocalists on trance tracks, but I'd much prefer a male vocalist singing normally than a male vocalist pitched up to sound like a woman.
