google voice, you can dial from your account on there, it calls the person using that number and it calls you and you just pick up and it starts ringing.
When done, ditch google voice account.
More points if you sign up via a bunch of proxies, throw away email, and use a pay-by-cash cell phone. :p |

standard VOIP is routed through IBX this means that calls are routed over the internet - then enter the local telephone network loop out of the IBX.
Telephone companies reserve a block of numbers (just like ISPS with IP)
Smaller providers lease number blocks from larger companies.
In order to run a voip service you need an IP and a phone allocation provider - a loop or line that connects to the phone network (this is sometimes synonymous with the internet lines also but not always) that is connected to one another.
You cannot actually hide your phone number without breaking telephone laws - for example splicing a telephone line and taping into it (this is a phreaking method, but it is also illegal)
With newer digital lines a lot of the older phreaking tricks have been removed.
With voip however it is possible to use a variety of accounts and services.
There are ways of securely anonymously using telephone services with a few limited tricks, but I'm not going to go into them here.

It is not difficult to secretly make a phonecall - except in that your source of broadcast can be traced to whatever point you connect in at through routing logs.
There are ways of getting around this but they usually are not legal. |

Magic jack still assigns a phone number to you.
"The magicjack comes with an American Number included in the purchase price."
and is tracable by IP.
Using someone elses is a totally different issue, and is probably illegal.
Example buying someone one as a gift or tailing somebody from a store who buys one then using their magic jack to make anonymous calls probablly 99.9% illegal.
there are more devious ways of doing this but I'm not telling. |
