I'm looking to do some experimenting with a blend of EDM/IDM and styles from India, Middle East, Far East, Africa, South America, etc. and I'm looking for some examples to get me inspired while I'm at work. I'm sure others are doing this already, but I'm not finding much (aside from goa trance, which I'm not really interested in). I'm thinking mostly organic sounds and textures, tribal rhythms, etc. with electronica blended in. Are any of you guys doing anything like this, or know of any artists that you can point me to?

Croatia - The Opening 2010 - Chillout Edition. One of my favorite compilations from last year. Gets sort of "new age-y" at times, but still a great compilation.

Listening to it now, Eric - nice find!
Yeah, its really good. Dinka - Smile When You Hurt The Most is an especially outstanding track. I kind of wish that Beatport had a "downtempo" category, so I could easily distinguish this type of stuff from the other more ambient stuff in the Chill Out category.

Good call - I forgot about Ofra. Been listening to her all afternoon. I'll check out Nusrat Fateh later. Thanks, Geoff, old bean! (is that correct usage? My American is much better than my English)

That would be nice.

I've been listening to a lot of Bonobo lately, not super ethnic but his style is inspiring.
Thanks to the random person here on TA that had one of his videos now I'm hooked.

Old bean is perfect me old china! :D
I just remembered The Unfinished (Matt) as well, he's got some nice ethnic mash on his Soundcloud page, although more filmscore and breaks inspired :-
