Hey guys,
I was listening to the radio in my town (Kent) yesterday when they played this 'new' band called Memorial Beach - http://www.memorialbeachmusic.com The music was really good but it sounded like it came straight from the 80s - it made me laugh cause I remember the time when no one would admit they liked 80s music and now its back in style.
Their website actually looks pretty rudimentary, not even a band photo on the site but I did like the song I heard - it reminded me of some bands I used to listen to a lot like the Cure, Human League, Cars, Smiths, etc.
So what kind of bands did you guys listen to back in the day? I think I'm gonna bust out my record collection again. :) |

I love the 80s, even though I just was born in 1982, so at that time I wasn't that old to experience music on the level where you recognize it.
I like Gary Numan, Depeche Mode and Euryhtmics the most. I also see this as the last decade of music that had character. I was a teen in the 90s but somehow I don't see the 90s as a decent musical decade that much. The 80s have a feel I really like, even with weird use of reverb on drums sometimes  |

i hate the 80s but its getting oldschool again so now its starting to be cool with the retarded synths-sounds and costumes. things where out of control. as where the 90s. infact stuff has been out of control since the 60s. most of all i just like to be drunk, whatever decade it is, i dont care as long as theres someone with me. im just glad theres electricity or else none of this magic we call music would be that great. el-guitars, synths, drummachines, all that is good. all that would been lost without electric power. thank god its practically free, we live in a special time, soon there will be wars over water and electricity (once the third world gets a taste). :p |

i like certain things about it but not really my favourite era. I like synths and everything but that whole uk synth invasion was not really what I would call cool. In fact playing a synth on stage was only cool once charlie mouser did it with NIN. I do like some of the early 80s disco aftermath and some late 80s stuff like roxette. There were some epic rock ballads that were ok and metal was starting to emerge. But god damn , anything with that E piano like in the credits music for dougie howser was just brutal. And the love ballads. And I suppose the beginning of rap was neat. Not the love ballads just to be clear.
I suppose in hindsight , it was a time of change. It is just overshadowed by prickly ugly english knobs wearing silly clothes playing synthesizers and acting for lack of a better word incredibly gay.
I think every era has something cool to offer.
By the way, if you are ever at a bar and need a name that tune person to hussle the contest for the 40$ tab, i'm your man. I can call track by 2 seconds of a drum beat. I know it doesn't sound impressive but like imagine just a kick and snare and right away I will know. I have never lost. Of course this was pre 2002 so I would;t really know the new stuff. |

Still listen here and there. Every now and again, I'll go back and listen to some of my favorite 80s songs and it just takes me back and makes me feel in a way no other music can. To me there is so much feeling and emotion in the songs from that era but it probably has a lot to do with me growing up around these songs. Being young and impressionable, they left a huge impact on me. |

I disagree very much. There were a few gems but most of it was garbage. |

all of it was garbage. not only the music, but generally it was the dark age of after war when communism tried its last move to rule the world. then in 89 the wall fall down and everything was great in the whole world (atleast western). probably the most underrated event of newer times combined with ussr-breakup, were lucky to be even living on this planet it could have turned out very different. |
