Started in 2006 by DJ Twitch and Julian Prince, fixtures on Montreal’s DJ scene, the pair has been responsible for a number of potent releases and remixes for the Mile End Records label. Their goal is to make underground music that propels the party; house music for the masses as well as the true heads.
Teaming up with a singer named Notte and her undeniably gorgeous vocals HandGrenade Pimps present the moving “Wonder Why,” complimented with a heavy dose of remixes by an exciting crop of new school house producers. The original is an effective late night set stealer, featuring punchy bass, pulsating synth chords, and Notte’s haunting vocal. Remixes range from lovely deep house moments to slamming big room statements, courtesy of Frederic Jay, Brazil’s Paula Pedroza, Reagan Grey, Yovan & Nick Avilla, and HandGrenade Pimps member DJ Twitch himself. It’s a package filled with plenty of variety, giving proper house DJs of all stripes a choice for their sets. Have a listen.
