Good point.

It's sad to see some of the responses in here. I only put down my opinion in case anyone wanted my 2 cents but instead it became the focal point of attention. It seems like slingshot and She_fitz took the time to read the question and gave the answers I was looking for so thanks for those (hint hint to anyone else who would like to respond).

Sven Väth is Germany's most enduring and accomplished DJ/producer. Since he began DJ'ing at the famous Dorian Gray club at the age of 18, Sven has created ripples through the world of electronic music in many ways: As co-founder of the trendsetting labels Eye Q, Harthouse and Cocoon; as owner of the clubs OMEN and Cocoon Club; and perhaps most importantly, as the godfather of Germany's trance and techno scene since its inception in the early 90s. Sven, like no other person in electronic dance music, has the ability to expose underground sounds to the mass population. His 14+ hour sets are the stuff of legend, and he will be DJ'ing parties until he his unable to physically operate a turntable - and even then he will be doing something innovative to propel electronic music into the new era.

and im just going to ignore your comment yohan, clearly you are just stirring the pot. Only an uneducated fool would think that all sven vath has is a gimmick.
Nrg2Nfinit
to add, if thorsten fenslau was still alive and moroder didnt drift off from dance music in the early 80s, they would surely be top candidates for the spot.

I don't know what your problem is but you may live in a fantasy world. All I've mentioned in this thread in regards to my knowledge of Sven is:

1)He's been in demand to come to Toronto amongst a significant number of TA's (which is really a crucial factor to the point of this thread if not THE POINT).
and
2)I mentioned that I have followed his career for a substainal period of time which should indicate to you that mentioning his discography to me is completely pointless.

I really don't know what you're trying to prove. All I asked for and I hate to mention this again is for those interested in seeing him come to play a gig in Toronto, for what specific reasons they would be intregued to attend. It's an open question with no right or wrong answer (I only gave my 2 cents to try and contribute to the conversation but like most typical TA inquiries, it becomes the focal point of attention). If you'd like to know the extent of my knowledge of Sven, you could have asked on your first post and I'd have no problem sharing it with you but since you've decided to take the roll of fascist authority, I'm very reluctant.

And btw, nice way to show you're a hypocrite by telling Yohan not to stir up after calling me an idiot on the first page.

anyone remember his track 'Face It'? Yes? No? I'll remind you:

im gonna go back to living in the 90s now.

I think i answered your question. If you don't know by know why he is a legend then i think you need to be educated. The reason why i have stern words for you is that you ignorantly start a thread trying to downplay a true legend of electronic music because of his shenannigans on stage.

If you don't like him thats fine, everyones entitled to their own opinion, but to try to shoot him down and say he's not talented is a sign that you're oblivious when it comes to the subject of him as an entertainer.

Personally, having followed his career for quite a while and being well informed back to the days when he played music in british train tunnels for raves of up to 2,000 people, I find him to be a pretty sad story. In my opinion, a grown man acting like this who has a teenage daughter should be ashamed of himself. This is not an attack on his music; although I find his music to be quite outdated and not very unique since it's just a delayed echoe of what other DJ's in that spectrum have already played.

this is not an attack on his music, yet im going to continue the sentance by attacking his music.

Good stuff.

However, I'd like some input on this as it pertains to the first paragraph.

i gave you some input, take it as you like.

Is he a legend cuz of his shenannigans, or cuz of his musical ability? the way people talk about him, seems to be mostly the shenannaganisms. <- this is the question.

Referring back to Wikipedia or his discography doesnt really help.
Nrg2Nfinit
obviously because of his shennanigans! lets just throw 25 years of musical talent and ingenuity out the window and take a look at a couple of recent videos posted of him being mashed at parties.

How is one suppose to even take the question posted by the thread starter seriously. lol.

Did most of you guys just start listening to electronic music 2 years ago? i mean its been around for over 40 years now you know.

so he's good then.

why take you seriously? if you wanna say Sven's good dj to go see these days then post a set or a tracklist or something. he was involved with harthouse and Eye Q a long time ago; that doesn't say much about what he spins now, especially in the last few years when he's treated like an icon.
Nrg2Nfinit
i never said that sven is a good dj to see these days. That is all about personal preference (which i am not arguing). However, that does not take away from the fact that he is a legend because of his history with regards to creating and promoting the music.

This is why i posted the discography for spaniard to get a clue.
