Ontario Electricity Rates to Rise 46% over the next 5 years (pg. 3)

One big F up in all this energy BS is NAFTA as well. I remember reading awhile back that we are contractually obligated to sell a certain percentage of our energy output (maybe 1/4 to 1/3 if I had to guess) to the States, EVEN IF WE ARE HAVING A SHORTAGE. Add that to the long list of reasons why NAFTA needs to be scrapped or re-worked...

Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan says his government will introduce a 10 per cent rebate program for electricity bills, but admits rates will jump 46 per cent over the next five years.

I posted about this last November and funny how the '10% savings' banners are popping up everywhere now... pre-election time.

When wind is going to be strong, it may be a good time for a nuclear plant to schedule some short-term maintenance work, or for water-powered generators to collect water behind dams for use when the wind slackens, he says.

In addition, power users can be invited to take advantage of markets when demand is slack. Some industries can plan a short-term production speed-up if they know there’s going to be lots of power and low prices the next day.

Better forecasting should also decrease the need for keeping back-up generation running, says Campbell.

This is a good idea. Nuclear and renewables are going to be the mainstay, ow would be a great time to make sure they're kept in order. I'd also like to phase out coal plants. Let's actually do the responsible thing with the opportunity provided by these wind farms and do something to ensure the longevity of our power needs while minimizing our carbon footprint.

The conservatives are promising to get rid of the HST, and debt retirement charge on electricity if elected. According to they promo flyers, the debt was already paid off, and they are still charging it!?

i don't know why govt keeps trying to privatize essential services. never going to realize that once you privatize something, you lose control over it.

at this rate, i'm going to buy a diesel generator and wire my house to that. probably be cheaper
