Question about Sears - help with a paper!!!
View this Thread in Original format

Hi All! I'm writing a paper and thought I'd try to get some more ideas/thoughts.

Topic is the future of Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) and whether or not it will survive the next 10 years.

I have all my ideas outlined and pretty much know the direction of where I want to go on the paper but would love to hear some of your thoughts.

If anyone would like to share please feel free to answer;

1) What is your hypotheses on how the future of Sears should look (or if they even have a future in today's market)
2) What are some specific elements of this 'future os Sears'
brand identity
organisation of store in different worlds/categories
top services/technologies
selling concept/service model
seasonal themes and flex space
3)Short list of dept store and specialty store concepts to benchmark around the world?

Or feel free to just comment about your overall perception of Sears and Before/After (how you felt about it 10 yrs ago versus present day).

Thanks so much.

Sounds like you just want TOTA to do your work for you. Maybe you should sleep less and brainstorm yourself.

My brainstorming is done already.

Those are all my topics and I have all my ideas, just wanted some thoughts on what some of the general public thought (without having to do a survey)

But thanks

Your questions above essentially ARE a survey.

Just out of curiosity, if people respond to your topics on TOTA, how would you reference that in your paper? "According to people on a local EDM internet form..."
Moral Hazard
I think both Sears and this lame attempt at marketing suck ass; subsequently, SEARS! Put that in your report.

Let me rephrase...without having to setup an actual survey via survey monkey or some other outlet.

The reason I chose this topic was because I had the opportunity to attend the Attitude fashion show (label from Sears) and had virtually never even heard about it. I actually liked some of the clothing but the fact that it was from Sears turned me off.

I wasn't planning on referencing/citing any of the information from here but was just curious what others thought, or if it was just me.

I remember growing up I used to love receiving the wish book around the holidays and going through it circling all the toys I wanted.
Nowadays I rarely step foot in one. I just find there is a stigma (at least in my eyes) associated with Sears. I consider it a baby boomer store and lacking in branding/reinventing themselves.

lol

I could be your best friend right now.

(employed at sears headoffice for the past 3.5 years and have done countless school projects on the company)

Now more than ever should this project be pretty easy - with HORRIBLE Q3 results (worst in the past 5 years) and controversial dealings with it's US vendors Sears is all over the news providing lots of analytical reports on the company.

I try not to think about Sears after 8pm but I'll try to come back to this thread in a bit.

Good luck with your project

Fair enough.

Wait....

Do you mean Sears Holdings or Sears Canada? - they are two separate companies.... (although SHC owns most of Sears Canada)
