Looking forward to it as well. I really liked 2009 the most. 2010 was okay, a few highlights here and there but a bit weak. I'd like to see what they'll do with 2011. |

For me, the highlight of the series was in 2007, but each PA installment almost invariably includes a stunning crown jewel of the edition that's worth the entire price of the album. In 2009 (again, in my opinion), it was Burger & Voigt's 'Frieden,' in 2010 it was Popnoname's 'Deutz Air,' and I'm quite excited to see what 2011 will bring. |

Just posted today (page Google translated from German):

| quote: | Pop Ambient series is one of those rituals kompaktien that punctuate our year. With his pockets with flowers and soothing sounds, Pop Ambient compilation takes us out of the last frost happy to take us slowly towards spring. In these bleak times, the selection 2011 is darker and more introverted, but still qualitative as carefully compiled by Wolfgang Voigt.

Looks like most of the resident line-up is on board for this, though I'm unclear as to where Ewan Pearson's contributions have gone. :conf:
Also sad to see Popnoname absent from this installment.
Anyway, first post has been updated. |

*raises eyebrow*
On a Pop Ambient-comp, of all things. Wasn't expecting that. I guess this could be interpreted as a sign that the series has deviated from the Wolfgang Voigt/Markus Guentner-school of ambient that it spent at least five installments on, but I won't hold my breath. |

The official RA press release:
http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=13230
| quote: |
Kompakt will release its next Pop Ambient compilation at the end of January.
The CD features many of Pop Ambients' usual suspects, including Thomas Fehlmann, Mikkel Metal and label co-founders Wolfgang Voigt and Juergen Paape. bvdub makes a return appearance after debuting on the series last year, and Joerg Burger (AKA The Modernist) appears under his most ambient moniker, Triola. The album kicks off with a cut from Raster Noton artist Alva Noto and former Einsturzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld, who work together under the name ANBB. Also featured is Daniel Ansorge, AKA Barnt, one of the co-founders of Magazine, a Kraut rock inspired label that burst onto the Cologne scene earlier this year. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the compilation is Bhutan Tiger Rescue, a duo made up of Ewan Pearson and October that debuts here with a droning track called "Beginner's Waltz." |

Eh, rather disappointed by this year's installment.
Certainly intriguing and engaging, but unfortunately, just mostly unappealing.
'Volax' and 'The Other Side of You' were certainly nice inclusions, however. :) |
