More stuff like this? (Post-rock/Shoegaze?)
View this Thread in Original format

I came across this album:

http://splitter.bandcamp.com/album/...-the-debutalbum (You can listen to the whole thing without purchasing/downloading it)

And found that I'd really like more stuff like this. Anyone have good recommendations for albums/comps/mixes with stuff like this? I assume this is Post-rock or maybe Shoegaze. Not sure exactly which genre this falls under since I'm not too familiar with either.

Thanks!

This is more Post-Rock than Shoegaze.
I'll create a thread on /mu/ for you to see what kind of replies you would get from them :p

My suggestions for post-rock:
Pooma - Persuader
Toe - RGB
Slow Six - Tomorrow Becomes You
Sigur Rós, but you should already have their stuff :p
Russian Circles have some Post-Rock, but mostly it's instrumental rock. Great stuff anyways. My fav. album is Station
Oceansize
Japancakes - Loveless (cover of My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless")
For A Minor Reflection
Crippled Black Phoenix - I, Vigilante
Collapse Under The Empire - Systembreakdown
Coaltar of the Deepers - No Thank You
The Album Leaf
65daysofstatic - The Fall of Math

Shoegaze/Dreampop:
My Bloody Valentine
M83
Sleep Party People - s/t
Luminous Orange
Picnic - Winter Honey
Broken Little Sister - Memories, Violet & Demons
The Depreciation Guild - In Her Gentle Jaws + Spirit Youth
Slowdive - Souvlaki

edit: thanks to PUDDI, /mu/ (as well as most of the other boards) are pretty much dead

The OP group sounds a lot like The Album Leaf sort of stuff.

There are a lot of groups that meld between Post-Rock and Shoegaze (The Album Leaf and M83 in particular). Shoegaze really needs the vocals though to be Shoegaze imo.

For post rock check out:
Explosions in The Sky (obviously!)
Mono (the Japanese band, not the EDM artist)
God Speed, You Black Emperor!
Mogwai
Labradford
Sleepytime Gorrila Museum (though they are kinda random, but i love the name)
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-la-la Band (which is related to God Speed if I am not mistaken).

Shoegaze Netro pretty much covered all the good stuff there, a lot of its pretty old/obscure now and I really haven't been arsed to look for most of it.

hmm, there is a lot of music that might fit into these categories

stars of the lid were always great on the drone/ambient end

do make say think is a favourite group of mine, lots of different elements and personalities interacting to create a very interesting rock orchestra

there are tons of obscure bands/artists but that stuff is pretty hard to find for the most part ... in general anyone who was doing this kinda thing has moved on to other things (although dmst still tours once in a while, very worthwhile live show)

oh dear, just listened to "splitter" :(

Wow thanks for all the recommendations

Shoegaze-wise, my current faves are Moscow Olympics. Beautiful sounds.

Lovely.

Check out a compilation album named "A tribute to Spaceman 3" on Rocket girl records. You can find it on Beatport.

Love a bit of shoe-gaze myself. Cocteau Twins were my first taste of the genre as such and I love Slowdive too.

Enjoyed the Moscow Olympics stuff, will check them out!

I've been listening to Moscow Olympics all day, thanks very much sunsurge, this is mainly the only kind of guitar-based stuff I listen to these days :) The Farthest City I listen to on repeat.
