Hi all,

This is my first attempt at a live recording in FL Studio. Basically what I did was lay out my kick, bass and percs across the playlist. Then I mapped all the mute buttons for those to my MIDI controller. Next I mapped some synth parameters and effect sends. Finally pressed record, turned some loops on and off, triggered some samples, moved some knobs and played the lead synths. Let me know what you think...

Also, I should mention I didn't spend much time mixing or adding effects; very basic, but organic I think.

Pretty cool. I'd love to have a decent enough of a MIDI controller that would let me do that. The way you have your progression moving, you've set up this really cool element of anticipation that I think is missing a lot of the time. Kind of cool, knowing what you're doing, to hear the improvisation with the synth work.

My only crit has to do with the hats being a little harsh in places and the ride-cymbal-bell (panned center-left and pitched lower than the ride) getting a little annoying after a while. The bass-line also seems nearly absent, but the kick seems to be doing a lot of work in that regard.

All-in-all, a very enjoyable listen. As proof-of-concepts go, I'm definitely sold.

Thanks! I had some trouble with the bass; it sounds fine on my monitors, but when I played it on some other devices, it sounded way too heavy. So, I kind of 'blindly' lowered it just to be safe. Maybe I'll try bringing it back up. And about the ride cymbal - yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with it myslef right now :stongue: ...I'll work it out and post an edit in a minute.

Thanks again!

Does anyone else agree that the bassline is weak sauce?

It does seem to disappear whenever the beat kicks in. You might want to consider a secondary bassline that doesn't go quite as low to bring it up a bit.

It is a very subby bass. (it's actually just a tabla sample with a boost on the low end) I think the problem could also be the main pad conflicting with the bassline's mid range. Maybe some some notch eq on that; maybe an extra mid-bass layer. Haven't had the time to go back to it yet.

That was really interesting to listen to knowing how you recorded it! Nice man!

I agree with Eddie, I need a better MIDI controller!
