Something about just a laptop and a mixer turns me off, like watching chris liebing videos is the most boring I've ever seen. but it's just my opinion, some people love it and thats cool too.
another issue I have is with traktor's sound card: if you're playing mp3's through your laptop then through your soundcard to the mixer, it will not sound as good as playing the same mp3 from a cd or usb connected to a cdj. it just won't. the more connections that are made will reduce sound quality. I talked to Tobi Neumann this summer when I randomly saw him at inbeat and that's what he said too, and he's heard djs play all over the world in some of the best sounding clubs. maybe when they improve the sound quality, ill take some time to try the software or at least have a less negative view of it. |
Go see T47... bran, you can't do what he does with cdjs, he doesn't use any efx in his CLR podcasts and it already sounds crazy... When you see him live this guy uses the most unorthodox effects to make the craziest I have ever seen...
I don't know whats boring about Liebing man, maybe you just don't enjoy what he plays... |

im sure he does, i definitely agree you can use it to do some amazing things, I was just talking about my personal issues with that setup. for him, its probably what makes him perform his best. so the more power to him. and you know that the CLR techno sound isn't really my thing, but I do like some techno stuff like ben klock's new release on ostgut ton. Going to see T47 might not do as much for me while for you its the best out there. its all relative to personal tastes. |

| probably, we do have quite different tastes, albeit I do still enjoy the stuff you like.. |

like i told you when i last saw you, i enjoyed most of the stuff in your last set, and i like a lot of the stuff you do too. but i cant listen to pure techno for a full night, it becomes too monotone after a while and you know im not so into full on dark . though its nice if done well.
anyways i apologize for the thread hijack :) |

Pumped for tomorrow.. but question for you all, is there a strict dress code at UN? My friend told me there is, but.. I've seen pictures and it didn't look all that strict. I refuse to wear dress shoes to a club, this isn't ing Toronto lol
Anyone? |

| So happy I made it out for this event. Carlo was on fire all night long...Hard to believe it was only $10....Played some really dark, Deep and Sexy. Track after track. He could have kept going, one of my best evenings at a regular hours club in a long ass time...I never make it out anymore. Had to make this one, embarked in a long solo mission. Everyone bailed and whined about the weather.. F**kit...I'm going solo. Great night, meet quiet a few people in line and inside. Crowd was younger, but a lot of fun. Lookin forward to catching an After H set. Dance space was a little tight, but I always find a way to make room. Next Stop....D-Formation |

very true, which is why i only use my traktor setup on small sound systems where the difference is negligible. On a big or analog system its all about cdjs.
Many DJs also do their mixing internally on traktor/ableton which is terrible because there's no headroom and the summing algorithm on both apps isn't very good at all.
If only we could have protools summing/sound quality on a traktor setup... makes me get all warm n fuzzy inside just thinkin about it! |

Dude, it all depends if you're playing mp3 or WAV/AIFFs. From the laptop to the soundcard there's no loss since it's all digital, no matter how many connections there are. After that if you're mixing externally, it's the same thing as paying with CDJ's since the output (24bit 96khz) of the Audio 8 is going directly into the mixer and that's it. If you're mixing internally, it's a different story, and I completely agree with you.
I think that on big soundsystems, the main quality issue is not traktor vs CDJ's but mp3's vs WAVs. |

I've got no idea how to post pics properly on this site...I'm a little retarded with this forum. Next Stop....D-Formation |
DAMN! I was part of the lazy ones... oh well, hope he'll come back into regular club hours, last time at Circus he wasn't top shape. Glad you had fun! |

Well, not really. The AD/DA on your soundcard is responsible for this. Even if you are mixing wav/aiff there is still a loss happening out of the traktor soundcards... in fact I hate the sound of them. If you pay really close attention on a quality system, CDJ vs Traktor is really noticble and I've done side by side tests. One easy way to see this is the difference in gain from traktor vs. cdj. |
