Need to check this out. Haven't really heard any of the tracks.

The SPY Calibre & Break tunes are all on youtube.

I'm a big fan of Marcus Intalex - Steady so i've cut a sample out and uploaded it. It's kinda quirky, simple yet happy & fun. I like it, but it's not out til next year apparently :(

this looks really great! its exactly the style of dnb that i love these days. really cool to recognize a lot of names (Commix, Klute, SPY, etc) in that tracklist too considering i really don't know of many artists in this genre as whole (besides LTJ Bukem, ha)

That's exactly the problem I have with Fabric comps, and commercial mix comps in general these days. They're always the same predictable lists of names, because a comp has to make money and the only way you can sell copies is by cramming the tracklist with big names.

It tends to waver in either direction when it comes to Fabric comps, though: the tracklisting is either populated largely with instantly recognizable names and well-received tracks from that year, or a list of current and (long) past anonymous names, probably in a very pronounced attempt at deviating from the pattern of predictability you mentioned.

As a DJ he's got a good reputation, seems to be a nice guy too. I'm just happy to hear music that I still like because if some of these guys weren't doing it, I don't know where I'd be!

I think tracklist wise it's always going to come down to people playing stuff they do generally, and in this day & era there's a lot more label playing than there used to be, but then again the autonomic one, there's not a load of labels making that sound, so they asked people to make tracks especially for it. I just try to enjoy the good ones for what they are and forget the 'who' for a while.

That's exactly the issue. With everyone doing podcasts, guest mixes and live sets online, why pay £10 for 80 minutes of the usual suspects? The only way these mixes ever stand out is if there's some exclusive productions featured.

Ian
Understandable, but I still buy because owning a cd supports the artists, the labels and the like. Because I don't download every podcast or radio show, I do miss things too which picking up a compilation like this will help me to discover and often go on to buy it (eventually sometimes with d&b) as a single too.
Ian
Out today in all good record stores... So surprisingly my local HMV didn't have it.... :haha:
