and why do people keep insisting that everybody MUST like trance no matter what ... some types of music just don't appeal to certain peeps. I'll admit I'm just being devil's advocate a little but hey, when I look at some of your posts I really wonder how closed-minded you people are for not acknowledging other types of electronic music.

true...i mean i've got friends that can't stand the sound of artificially created music. aka electronica. they're more into the whole vocal trip with r&b and stuff. and that's totally alright! but i think most of us don't ONLY listen to trance. it just so happens to be our favourite type of electronic music. but i get what cha sayin' skywarp. and i agree with ya ('cept for the closeminded statement). many, many raves are never or hardly ever announced to the masses. it's only through research and stuff that you can actually find one.

This quote brings back a bad memory. Some girl in my class asked me to make a CD for her. I replied that most of my music is trance and that she wouldn't like it. She insisted that she would so I made it. A few days later I asked her what she thought and she said that it all sounds the same. The part that really pissed me off was when she said......."It's funny because me and my roomate were saying to eachother that there are people who can listen to 2 seconds of the song and still know exactly what song it is. Isn't that hilarious???"
I couldn't believe she just said that because it was basically me and a whole lot of you guys that she was talkin' about with that statement. Before I continue ranting I guess I'm trying to say that its people's ignorance that causes them to make ridiculous comments. It takes a trained ear and an open mind to listen to the various forms of electronic music and these things don't just appear over night. I've given up on having to justify liking trance to people who are obviously incapable of understanding........

I very much agree with that. People taking the elitest mentality like that with trance and disregarding other genres makes me cringe. I can only hope that the trance scene doesn't become known for people like that... and used as another negative point for trance haters.

i agree with all you guys, its annoying, people who say "all trance sounds the same" but you could say the same about house, jungle, drum'nbass, etc.
even worse is people who say "it takes too long to start". i f-ing hate that.. its like you're so damn impatient, just go listen to your local top 40 pop station, little 3-minute choons. they cant wait 10 seconds or one minute for the song to "get good" , as they say.

but my goodness, i hated zombie nation the first time i heard it.. it's just so simplistic, i dunno
obviously some will disagree w/ me, but you all have your tunes which piss you off. that's one of the trance licks for me.

what DOES sound all the same, or mostly the same,
is hard house.

and yet where i live (vancouver) id be crucified if i said that at a rave/party/friday night gathering where high schoolers gather to dance repetitively and look cool.

"Millions long for immortality who do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon"-Susan Ertz.
So many people walk around so aimlessly and with nothing better to do, so they are quick to catch and castigate any convenient scapegoat. They feed on misinformation and assumptions all too readily, as sharks do with chum. And true: once the novelty of something has been exploited they will turn on it so remorselessly( as one of you stated some time ago, if I remember correctly, the current song is THEIR song, only because it is popular). I know cause I have been guilty of it. Will commercilazation of Trance lead to its downfall? i do not know, but just like the media, I think that its commercialization needs a complete overhaul.
I love to listen to Reflections by Loop Control on rainy Sunday afternoons. Any other recommendations for the green horn?
( yes, Mutterkorn is amazing, but I prefer its segue into Bells of Avalon).

some good discussion doodz and doodettes :) i also hate close minded ppl that dont have a clue about anything else but one particular type of music. Although i may not like it, i dont hate ppl for making jungle... u gotta give them the props for being good at what they do... same with beethoven or mozart, i in hate classical music on its own (sometimes nice mixed with other types of music) but, they were the best of the best at making the so respect to them :)

I also think if u only listen to one type of music, if u aint already, it can cause close-mindedness. Sinmply because u learn not to like anything else :)

Peace

Yeah i agree with this forum.

I have many friends that say they hate trance but when a trance song comes on they go nuts. I think this is funny.

I this Trance and Classical music are very similar..... im not saying the few songs of trance where they took the melodies straight out of some classical music songs!!...im saying how the music effects you the melodies and the dramatic points in the songs...its similar to trance cuz trance also influences your emotions..like some makes you just want to go nutz , some songs are kinda sad song, some are erally happy songs.... but its all made through the melodies of the songs which i very similar to Classical music . and honeslty i love classical music...but anyway

Im sorry this post has probably nothing to do with the thread but just thought i would share this!! :)

I agree with TranceCluber, I also find classical music very similar to Trance, that's why classical songs sound even better when they're trance-remixed, hehe
I was very surprised to see a trance lover who doesn't like classical music...but i have nothing against you Tu-Face =)
I guess classical songs were just missing beats...then trance was created. Of course, trance is not only that.

I don't like people who only like one genre either. I find that very bad, because you can miss a lot. What I do with those is trying to "teach" them some other interesting genres, most of the time, it works...pretty long sometimes too !
But a lot of people are against trance, that's sure...one day, i had some guy coming at my house, he went through all my vinyls, saw some Bonzai vinyls..he took a Fire & Ice vinyl and after TWO seconds of listenning : "baah...just some old commercial "...aahh, that pisses me off.
To sum up, i think it's just a matter of acceptance, trance haters need time to appreciate it, just because they have a lot of stupid prejudices.

I think trance is the music of the left wing, and hence stands for everything that conservative elements dont like. it is radically differrent from all major genres in that there are next to no vocals in most trance, the fact that a sampler is used, not drums, and also that there are no guitars! people cant adapt to this change just like they cant adapt to other left wing ideas.

i think the hatred towards trance spawns mainly out of this radical style differrence..its like elvis in the 50's, only not as big.. YET. People cant see how music w/o guitars and vocals can be good.. and yet these same ppl honor Bach and Mozart as the greatest composers of all time! Trance is more reminescent of calssical music than anything.

As for the drug link, i think it has to do with left wing mentality once again.. new music + young people = drug use. alwyays has always will. to say its the style of the music that causes it is ridiculus... its like those ppl who say marylin manson was the reason for columbine.

talking about classical music, it really is the origins of trance. if you look at house, hard house, jungle, etc. they do not resemble melodic progressions very much, as someone already said, Trance as we know it now can really be called "classical music w/ beats". also coming from a classical music background.. i have to defend it by saying at least, these were the very first steps that music took in the history of music, its not really fair to say "i hate this" etc. obviously a lot of people dont enjoy listening to it, even me now when i slip in the ol' marco v innercity cd into the car, interrupting my mom's mozart. but it's music of a different ERA, not just genre, so its not really fair to compare (even if you do hate it)... more justified would be to compare it to pop, alternative, or even rap or something. classical music is really the "alphabet" of all music we have come to know, with the exception of perhaps tribal drums and hard house. heh
cant put that time winking face where i want to, obviously a joke
