The site has had a new layout recently, but has the rating system changed?

I'm seeing many films with ratings of 8+ now, whereas I seem to remember that it was a rare thing for a film to have a rating of more than 7 before.

It's not rare at all, just look at the top 250 movies :conf:

I always wondered how regular you needed to be for your vote to get counted. I try and vote every time I watch something.

I hate the new layout, I don't know where to find writers and producers

+1

it's going to take me awhile to get used to. before it was easy to find release dates, directors, and the small stuff about movies. :(

The calculation of the aggregate ratings is explained at the bottom of the Top 250 list.

I have a system where everytime I watch a film, I give it an IMDB score and am not allowed to watch it again. I started doing it to document all the films I've ever watched, and also to stop myself just constantly rewatching Robocop and Predator. I've found that it really helps me enjoy a film, because the knowledge I can only see it once and have to give my verdict at the end makes me really watch it intently. Occasionally I'll allow myself to rewatch a film if it demands a second viewing to understand properly.
