I can't seem to get HD by plugging my Comcast cable directly into my HDTV. Is this normal? I was trying to avoid having paying extra for a HD set top box. Anyone know about this stuff?

You will need the HD box, glasses, and antenna. BUT IT'S SOOOOO WORTH IT.

Most TV tuners do not translate the over the cable HD channels, only over the air ones.

They are only transmitting NTSC signal over cable, not ATSC. They want you to pay more to get their inverior quality digital box to do the job your ATSC tuner does for the superior OTA HDTV channels.

Correct. Only those with clear QAM tuners can do this. |

I did a channel scan and it found a bunch of channels on the high end. Most of which were duplicates of the local channel. The lower channels are labeled analog and the higher duplicates are digital, but even though the are digital they are still standard def. There are a couple of channels like tbs and the home shopping network which are hd and they look good.
